The problem with ra3 movies is that you always have this feeling that the frags are "semi-staged".
When someone gets dual airgrenades in tdm/ctf/1v1 then most of the times it's because he simply didn't have a better weapon and was forced to own.

When someone in ra3 gets airnades/rockets it's 100% unnecessary and you can't help suspecting that he tried to get those airnades the previous 44 rounds and he finally nailed it in the 45th round. It's just not impressive :/

Air rockets are pretty pointless in RA3 really (Or does a direct rocket in RA3 do way more damage than a rail?) if there is enough time to switch weapon.

That is kinda my point actually. Once you've switched to rail, and you intend to shoot with it, that's all you're gonna do in the next 3 seconds. We play 200/100, it takes 300 damages to kill someone, and there are 5 guys versus you and your mates (more on public servers).

Switching to rail is only a good idea if you're gonna flee after you shot, and let your mates down. Or if you want to get raped with LG/RL. :)

That's a lot of ammos wasted when they could have been used in a much more useful way - ie, on the ground, at max range, in which case rockets are both harder to hit and easy to dodge.

If you hit, it's just more efficient to keep rocket launcher. Now if you don't want to take the risk it's your problem.

Well, about 75% of the superskilled ra3 airrockets are from a jumppad, which means rail/shaft would have been a far better choice of weapon.
If you really want to use "unnecessary fun" frags in a video they have to be special. Getting airrockets from ra3mapX tower jumppad for the 4433th time is about as special as airrockets on q3dm6 jumppad to ra.

The semi-staged ra3 frags are especially not impressive when performed against UnnamedPlayer and reeks of 45th round success ;)

the only reason to even play RA3 is to make frags like these which you can't make as often in VQ3/CPM due to a much lower frequency of such opportune situations. might not be as impressive but it's fun.

that being said, there sure are a few RA3 players who are very skilled and could probably do relatively well in VQ3/TDM with practice. these are the guys usually making the "skilled" frags on large, crowded maps while being targeted by multiple enemies as opposed to the "semi-staged" air rockets on duel maps. people like lofwyr, rocketbear and sav come to mind.

Why would they want to do well in vq3/TDM again ? To have to divide their sensitivity by 2 to 10 and have MG as their main weapon ? Duh. :)

Lots of RA3ers don't play OSP simply because they can't enjoy it. As for myself I only enjoy 1on1 and if OSP didn't have such a shit netcode - or if I had a better connection - that's probably the only gametype I'd have kept on playing, although I do prefer team mods.

Much of these players are unknown to you because they prefer CA, not because they suck too much for OSP. Hell, if you really play OSP, you should know a lot of not so good players have been playing it on a daily basis. :)

I don't rate many OSP players because to me many of them are just lowsens hitscan whores who are only impressive in terms of stats.

RA3 players are RA3 players, they play with an average sensitivity that is way higher than that of OSP players, and they have a whole different playstyle and mindset.

the general consensus is that VQ3/CPM duel is the most complex and hardcore form of Quake and that it requires a high skill level to succeed. i agree with this. RA3 gameplay is just too simple to be taken seriously in my opinion.

i do agree that there are many players who simply prefer this gameplay and it has nothing to do with their skill level or their potential to do well in 1v1 or TDM.

Ideally yes, vQ3 TDM is much more complete. Factually, it is flawed and anyone with a low sens and enough praccy can be a good TDM player. Especially since it tends so much towards mindless cess.

hisoka's always fooling around with grenades anyway. That's like his second best weapon. Next to gauntlet.

didn't see much saturation of contrast going on
not saying you should have had something super dark with tons of contrast
but just enough color to really bring out the player models from the walls

That's interesting as I was specifically thinking the exact opposite when watching actually. Thought everything was very clear and distinguishable even with just red and blue skins, and I'm on a mediocre CRT. Really liked the colors/effects in general.

As for frags I'm too tired to elaborate but basically what's been said before. Can't go "holy shit!" the same way as if it was an official duel/tdm game, but nevertheless looks good and is entirely enjoyable! No particular complaints and can't reasonably dock points for it being RA3 frags when I know from the title exactly what I'm downloading. 9/10

wow, I was really amazed by this movie; visually great, amazing frags & good music! Almost makes me wanna go play CA3, but then I decide to leave it as my rl aim is terrible.

When I watch those fragmovies I can't believe how Q3 graphics are still fucking awesome. Nine years, and it looks better than half of 2008's games.

It's deeply enhanced with filters and stuff, those are not exactly the original Q3 GFX, as good as they might be. :)

I know, but still Q3 graphics with everything on high + high resolution + AA = fucking beautiful. I just forgot that it looks sooo sweet because I've been using picmip for years ;)

You probably know that from you own experience rather than from this movie, because sz payed particular attention to that aspect of things. :)
Map11 is the most played map on public servers by far yes, hence a majority of frags on this map, but this is untrue for pickups or clanwars.

The list of maps in this video is map9 CA (at least 5 times), map15 CA, map11 CA, map19 CA, map1 DA (several times), map11 DA, map7 CA (several times), some other DA I'm not sure I recognize (map10 I think ?), another DA from map1, map8 CA, map12 DA, map2 CA, 6++ (crappy dm6 remake), map16 CA (crappy q2dm1 remake - no, I don't like remakes), map10 CA, and that must be it.

So no, RA3 doesn't have just one map, just like cp9 is not the only Q3CTF map, DM6 is not the only Q3 DM map, and so on.
And there's certainly much more variety than that in this movie. :)

Well a CPMA player can be anything from a ffa/ca/1v1/tdm/ctf/ft/cq3/cpm/vq3 aaaaand so on.

So sansai is basically just throwing random words around not realising that what he probably intends to be an insult is in fact gibberish.

However, "Ra3 player" is a much more precise insult, simply for the reason that Ra3 only supports a single type of game; the second-shallowest game ever created for q3, only surpassed by instagib.

I always like a good ra3 movie. Content was excellent. Editing was what it was but it all worked for me. Music was a bit off but thats just me I guess. A keeper for sure. :>
