from what i recall, most people only liked q4 because they were better at it than q3, or the scene in q4 was so small that it was much easier to win. (not referring to toxic here, obviously, but saying that this is how the majority of other good players regarded it) q3, on the otherhand, was liked by people because of the game itself and how much fun it was.

the difference here is fun as a result of the game as opposed to fun as a result of winning.

About Q4 hitboxes... weren't they changed in the later patches from rectangular to cylindrical? Would be nice to have those in q3 as well (this is what toxic was referring to imo).

Also personally I still found them pretty big compared to Q3...

Lower or not cylindrical hitboxes are 'smaller' than rectangular ones. It's not exactly about making Q3 more like Q4 but it would definitely benefit such aimwhores like toxic.

There are lots of people who find it the total opposite too though.

Black background and white text is better for LCD screens in dark environments, white background and black text is fine if you have strong lighting such as in an office though.

It can also be beneficial for those with impaired sight and also dyslexic people.

Flame is a kid I played countless times in Q3 and Q4 over the last 3-4 years.

I do agree that he does not deserve to be considered pro, not even up and coming.

Outta 8 tournament games vs him ( Cal seasons, GGL Americup, x3o tourney ) I lost only 1 map and that so due to having to play him on a Mexico based server.

For the record, I'm average high skilled and far far far from pro :)

I guess this AGP tour thingy is mostly a mix of being friends with Jarod and licking the right piece of ass/boots as well as being at least relatively skilled.

I wish AGP succeeds but I somehow doubt a random organisation can take on the Qlive tournament wave before GGL or ID themselves ( notice GGL already has private slots of their own ). Then again....so far Quake has always been about knowing the right people and having the right connections in order to profit so who knows :)

Most of the people on the pros page are notable for some specific reason. For example Flame usually does well anytime there are Mexican qualifiers for a larger international event.

I don't know anything about Flame's personal relationship with the AGP. From a marketing standpoint it is a good idea to promote "local" players who may not be the best in the world, but are able to attain exposure and/or a following where they live.

Not exactly sure what you mean by circusmtances. To me it's similar to when Saybian ( ClampOK ) decided to go to Australia to get qualified ( ESWC ), knowing the skill level required to win there would be way less than in USA. Flame beneficiates from the fact he's among the only talented Mexican players. That's fair with me, but to consider this guy a "rising star" is borderline blasphemy. He still has a long ass way to go before reaching the level of most, if not all, other people in that "pro list".

Hopefully AGP's format will allow newcomers to participate to events that are local to them, otherwise this is definately a strange move. ( then again the concept of "local" with Qlive may be different altogether ).

Anyhow, I don't want this to turn into a personal vendetta against Flame. I had good matches vs the guy in the past and I merely meant to say that AGP is rapidly taking the CGS reality tv turn where stars are born from shit in a single day.

If you read Flame's description on the AGP site you see that they offer a pretty good explanation as to why he's there. He is the best in Mexico regardless of his skill in comparison to others outside the country.

The competitive players did a good job making q4 better, I'm not sure why you're hung up on one map. What about all the other maps that worked out great? What about the competition mods? What about the people who organized tournaments?

I was using the "Man called Sun" example to prove that when people take it upon themselves to dictate what should be considered the highest tier of a hierachical scheme of appreciation, it often goes sour.

Obviously Quake 4 beneficiated more than less from Pro Player input, that is not a debate.

I am eagerly expecting the best from South Africa and Cambodia to be added to the pro section of AGP in the near future :)

I loved 'A man called sun'. Such small hallways made it easy to just walk around instead of crouch slide. I loved how you could glitch-pick-up the RA. So many other things made it the best map. I can fully understand and comprehend why cl0ck,dkt,nomadick and whoever else was on that WSVG panel thought it was so good.

That aside. I'm glad Street is attempting to put together a league with tournies. I don't care how gimmicky the site/idea seems to some. If he can get a couple of nice DM events together, that's good enough for me.

Pretty obvious they just put up people they knew of rather than anything else. For example ZeRo4 is up and yet it says he's retired? Fazz/FooKi are on there and yet it seems to indicate that neither will definately play. Looks more like a placeholder type thing to be honest.

Firstly, half of those players are not pro 1v1 players, they might be good in other games or relatively good in quake4 (or maybe even as far as tdm in some cases), but most are diabolical at quake live.

I also won't get started on how bad the site looks for something thats been under production for over a year now. I could have created that whole site in less than an hour.

It may look good to outsiders with all these recognisable names on a bad website, but to anyone with a clue it just makes the admins look like clueless dribblers... no offence.

Somehow, those don't matter though. Beating Purri in Q2, and beating Toxjq in Q4 are easy tasks that Anonymous here has accomplished many times.
