Not sure about you but for me, in tourney6 its the exact opposite.

In qztourney6 for example, you can hear the other player 80% of the time even if he's 2 rooms away from you.

To me this is also a bug. Kinda hard to be sneaky if you need to start walking 2 rooms away from your target...

( usually missing jumppad sounds and such is due to computer lag more than anything )

Not sure about that, but the worst I find is the dropped sounds when there's a lot of action going on. For example, during 4v4 CA scrims, I have ZERO idea how much damage I'm doing with LG, because the hitsounds don't play due to so many other sounds going on at the same time. Quake Live limits how many sounds you hear, and unless it's a config setting I need to change, everyone gets it.

I've spent a couple hours one night messing with different sound drivers, s_doppler, and com_soundmegs settings. Nothing seems to make a difference.

turn off the sound. That makes a difference ;)
