I know it has been asked many times before. But, I mean, JC said that bringing QL to mac/linux was a huge priority. So, when?
I'm just sick of rebooting everytime I want to play..
especially since mac os doesn't have a linear mouse accel like windows, q3 was almost unplayable for me. i just had it installed to watch demos.
mousefix for mac os never really worked for me with other mice than microsoft's so that wasn't an option for me either since i'm playing with a logitech mx300
i guess theres nothing left but hope that id figures something out.
I'm pretty sure it can be removed, there is no programmatic reason as to why it can't. One can also adjust the acceleration curve. I just don't know how to remove it.
nothing??
well i guess i must be imagining using linux/osx for almost everything, including windows applications, but mainly for reasons windows cant accommodate
im asking the point of using linux, not trying to start a flamewar. unless you dont want to pirate / buy windows there is no point since it cant run anything
it can run everything. Linux is mainly used in posix environments, real time applications, primarily all sorts of servers. *nux/gnu provide a totally different ecosystem than windows which has been around long before windows and runs plenty of things you are not aware of, including package managers.
Windows has two emulation layers itself, not like you notice. From what I hear wine runs some games faster than they run on windows. Not that I care, I'm not gaming most of the time. So no, you ARE able to run everything. It might be a hassle though, I would not recommend linux for desktop to anyone. OSX on the other hand is pretty awesome.
you hear wrong, i tried it and it ran quake 3 at <60 fps. apparently the two emulation layers that windows has actually work versus the nonworking wine version. unless you are managing a network it seems pretty much worthless
so you ran quake 3, natively available for linux, with wine?
Regardless, http://wiki.winehq.org/BenchMark-0.9.5
Anyway, so if quake 3 runs slow, than yes, it must be totally worthless. Also, there are no other uses for computers besides Quake 3 and managing networks. Good to know.
i didnt feel like downloading a new quake just so i could play on ubuntu and uninstall it 10 minutes later. i didnt say there werent any other uses, im just saying its useless unless you are managing a network since everything else is available in windows. and you dont have to be a nerdy piece of shit to get windows working either! i understand you want the elitest feeling of using a different operating system than what other people use, but unique doesnt always mean useful!
You don't understand shit. You don't need a new quake, just one binary, and put it into your q3 dir. You also don't have the slightest idea why I use linux or even that I think that its piece of shit in many fundamental aspects nor what I would rather be using, and why.
i didnt know that because i uninstalled it 10 minutes later. why does that matter anyway? it obviously doesnt emulates games very well, and hardly any games support it. you still arent making any arguments as to why anyone would use it over windows. i'm still assuming the only people that use it either program or want to be unique or something
haha i knew some kind of response was coming...you think I actually play wow? was just testing it in wine on a friends account...quake in wine runs worse...but quake on the linux binary runs far superior :)
I tried it, the game is bad. I'm not ashamed to say I enjoy playing mmo's...I still have an active warhammer account. But i was just curious to see how they ran in wine, and wallah both out-perform windows
