The first time I met HELL he was what 16 yrs old and raping the competion at CPL qualifiers in london.

It was jam packed event, sujoy was there, big screen projector, at LEAST 100 people there and it was awesome.
HELL was the first ever seriously good player I ever saw on LAN and those that really know, back in the day HELL was one of the best ZTN players in world. I'm sure when he was flown to the USA, or Holland he also has good memories to keep on top of the hate. Or how about going to ESWC in France?

I supect that across all of the Quake's he's probably one of the best players in existence. Even Aaron who unsurprisingly is sticking the boot in now used to ride his cock becaue HELL was really good back in the day when he was at that age where he played a lot. I saw him push and sometimes beat some really good players who even today have great reps.

That tourney he and I went to (esri) 3 yrs ago (keyboard whine!) the night before we were talking about lanning (lanning with me-not someone who could push him!), while people like toogood had just come back from Sweden and were lanning with Deus at the LAN centre before. When he got there, his pc did not even have openAL, yet he didn't say shit even though everyone else was working.

I suspect HELL does play more than he lets on (like everyone then?), but I also know for a fact that he does not have the practice regime that many of the top players do and sadly you need to take your gaming to that level of play to stay in a high state of play these days.

Like i said,lanning with someone who can push you every second of the match is worth a lot more than just playing people who allow you to get away with things you would simply be punished for at a pro level.

It don't matter how long you play because after a certain point you understand the game and only by getting in good training with people who force you to raise your game will you stay sharp enough to stand a chance of playing well at the top level.

I seem to recall Jay having to stop for a while due to RSI, but that might have been a while before that tournament.

hell beat toogood at eswc in bristol, eswc in london qualifiers and at i32 he beat togood a lot more at tournaments, he knocked togood down to losers at bristol eswc qualifiers and knocked him out of tourney at eswc london qualifiers, then knocked him out of the tournament at i32 also.

I've never heard that. I just recall Jay having been told to stop playing Quake for a while due to RSI by a doctor (At least that's what he said) and I'm inclined to believe him since I have no reason not to.

He didn't play for a short while after that which certainly makes it believable. If he turned up two weeks later playing in a WSVG then I'd be less likely to believe it.

worth noting that Jay was primarily always a tdm player if I remember correctly

only from ESWC 04 (which was team selection) onwards is when he focused on any kind of active duel play, which is no surprise as TDM was done

so yeah, I expect a player who shines in 1v1 to overcome a player who shines in TDM

I've only seen HELL irl once.. at ESWC 2004 where sweden won the competition. I remember he looked like a really shy and quiet guy and he only played one or two group maps, he was more like the back up guy for the team.
For what i've seen back then.. he was a pretty average player.. nothing impressive .. really struggling to make the difference against players from theorically weaker sides.
Then again.. and it's just my opinion.. if q3 was never his game.. he did well on a 40 player game with a much easier get-in-the-game thing, that was q4. He developed is style and confident there and make the change to q3 were he does ok now.. but i don't think he has what it gots to be a top player, at least at q3 where he was never very regular and in my belief, ain't a game that fits his gamestyle.

True he was on top 4 players back then.. since there were 4 players on eswc for each team.. but if you put together the best ever uk q3 players i think he would hardly be on the top10.
On the other hand maybe he was top 10 world on q4 i think.. tho that was a 20 top players game .. so.
