U wanna compare one with another? Let's go, then..Compared with this list, the list I made is pretty much based on statistics+PLAYERS OPINION, which in any "YOURASS formula" never works, because people will always find a way to trick the statistics to get in front of the list, and formulas are usually hard to change and easy to get wrong.
Go now and tell the guys smoke_ is not number one qlive player in the world, and see if the URASS system will do listen what you have to say.

The rate em highskillers from 5-7 system was beginning pretty small then grew up because players were giving me more names, and it doesn't pretend to be the absolute true on the matter, yet many players contributed to it, so you kinda insult a lot of guys there, more than me (I don't feel insulted at all, because my personal subjective opinion is you are an idiot). You, Magician and Bluder are not top 100 brightest guys on the planet, are u, guys?

And the leaderboard is only a "fun fact board", it does not show the skill level in anyway.

Bigger lan tournaments will do top 100 or top 10 players, with small or none usefull skill reference conclusion for casual gamer, in the end.
You can't build solid skill rankings system on the results of lan tournaments, because 90% of players going there will be pro players, some in better shape than other, yet they are pro players, pro skill, lol. Top 10 or top 100 best/pro players is not skill rankings system.

Also please ignore that these rankings have only been running for one month. Would they have run from the beginning they would have been very accurate, and stermy would undoubtedly been nr1 which would have made your argument a little harder

These rankings are actually very comical, because (as soon as they fix some minor issues like counting dnf as losses etc) it shows exactly who has any balls in quakelive and is not afraid to play and beat the best on their own accounts (fooki, bodzo, stermy, draven etc) and who are the pussies claiming to be skilled with their oh so impressive stats gained from beating noobs, which will get you nowhere on a ELO ranking.

ELO system is made for topping statistics, not real skill evaluations, and the good results he give are based on the big number of noobs, which helps good players to stay in the top, so ELO system is relative.
If elo system base qlive skill evaluation on top evaluation (top 1-1000000, whatever), it will not reveal true skill, but statistics. Because most active qlive players are from good to excellent, and elo system will place them according to their results compared to other players who do the same -good to excellent. So we'll soon have good players called bad players, because their 80% defeat against pro players. When the beginner starts playing, his skill will be the same the good player, and loose by -3 to 50 . Elo system works more accurate for top 10 or top 100, and goes down the road the more you go for lower skills.

They only rank 100 players on their site, so thats fine then. Sure ELO is not perfect, but as has been said before it's not subjective and people are not going to reach nr1 with any form of trickery.

in chess only official games count, where you can't select your opponents.

I prefer the douchebag ranking than this sk-elo crap. If they were smart, they could have come up with an innovative elo-ranking based on online-tournement matches with a top 25 ranking. This one could have been updated after each tournement.

The current number one leaves a totally wrong impression, though he belongs to the skilled-roster, he is skill-wise far behind players such as stermy, strenx, or rapha. Just recently he lost a map versus a part-time quaker from france during an official game.

This is veeeery random. only tournaments, leagues and so on should count to ratings. Something like ATP world tour in tennis has far more sense = You get a points equal to the tournament importance. I have three questions though. Xenonjji = Fojji? Why theres isnt duelist in the rankings? Is duelist Cypher?

Theres nothing wrong with this... these rankings are 100% based on math theres no opinion involved at all... whoever is on the top just has the best numbers. It may not be accurate but its a little extra to strive for.

Obviously the best of the best are only going to be focused on tournament results but this is just a little bit extra to get the new kids on the block more interested in competing.

and to show them that they will need to put in nearly 300hrs of game time to beat the rest.

Why do people keep saying quits don't count?

They count in the in game statistics but for now they are not counted on the SK self-made ELO stats.

Overall and especially considering the fact that it so far incorrectly counts losses at times, the rankings are surprisingly accurate.

I highly doubt that. If that were the case how come 3 australians are on that list when there should be at least a few more who 'only' play tier 5 players, and not scrubs.

in the grand scheme of things, there are a great deal of tier 5 scrubs. You're in Australia, so you don't really have much basis of comparison.

I don't know whether you're taking a dig or not, but most people I know who play quake in this country would probably roll you, myself included.

I'm not sure if anyone else has had this problem but for me over half of my loses(don't know the exact number) were from qlive crashing my pc. Me being ahead in I think all of them after the halfway point and still getting the loss accredited to me. I'm guessing I'm not the only person that's run into this so I dunno if you can make correct rankings from a game that's still in beta with issues like this, and no major tourneys for it since qcon 08. And the fact that multiple accounts can't be accounted for :P

Overall I consider him the most improved player in USA in the last 3 years easy.

He went from very average in Q4 ( when he was still a CAL admin under the nick Leathery ) to pretty much unbeatable for me in a very short amount of time.

Hopefully he will market the Judgeboard once he reaches top tier. Id rather support that than a DKT greasepad.

Rankings like these are useless, i wish QuakeLive.com just did something like add&go tournaments, and scheduled tournaments too, just like you see in poker and did the rankings from those instead. That way people could practice without ruining the precious ranking and oh well, just an idea.

It will come but I think their focus at the moment is to fix the game before promoting the tourneys.

I personally think these stats are great. Why? Because they show a much better way than personal rankings. The system is though not fully developed. I'd like to see some functions, which have already been mentioned, like "only tournaments", "maps", "countries", etc.

o pls. all of u say this will get good over time like its a mantra. the only thing u can say is that the broad trends represented by the ranking will probly even out into a steady state.

in the end sure if u compare 2 guys who are separated by a large enough margin then the ranking will be accurate. but thats pretty much what the other guy with the skill points system did as well. the only difference is this system is "objective" while his is not. doesn't really make it better/worse.

which is sorta why i dont really get ids ranking changes on the higher end of the skill scale. anyone who doesnt beat u consistently by a 60-40 damage differential should not be in a higher skill class. and this seems to fail in almost every instance for me with players that are merely more challenging rather than very difficult (altho i suppose in my personal case u probly have to factor in the fact that i dont play ql that much).

i think another problem with a stat based ranking system is that if u stay within a skill bracket with all ur games it basically does nothing. so u have to play a lot of games out of ur bracket to get it to keep up with ur skill.

i guess what im getting at ultimately is that people should stop worrying about their fucking rank/skill whatever and just play :). unfortunately everyone (including urs truly) find that pretty hard to do.

Quitting the server when people I don't feel like playing are joining is a lot less time consuming than having to deal with the neverending drama it causes when I try to explain I don't feel like having a challenging fight.

Not a perfect system but kudos for trying. It's pretty difficult to construct a ranking system that is very accurate when people from different regions can only meet on equal terms when on lan.
