Entry #36
We're both conveniently Swedes so shipping was no problem. He also trusted me enough to suggest "pay on arrival" which is pretty much the easiest way I can think of here. As for price, I honestly don't remember exactly but it's kind of difficult to compare regardless (different standards in different countries). It wasn't "cheap" (quite a bit more than f.e the SF4TE) but I feel that I got what I paid for.
I was originally trying to get one from overseas but that was just so much hassle that it fell through. Apparently advance payment with PayPal wasn't enough; he was going to send a "contract" via snailmail and shit which was just eh... No thanks. No trust, super slow, expensive shipping and potential taxes on top.
I'm actually thinking of building my own stick in learning purpose soon. It's going to be helluva fun! =D I've done some numer crunching and I believe it's going to cost me about 1200kr. A decent price I must say.
I wasn't comparing the sticks, I was comparing the price. The SF4TE is probably great (haven't used one). Mine is too, and was completely customized from scratch and not massproduced = more than $150 which becomes "cheap" in comparison. Relatively speaking it wasn't "cheap" either as you can easily get custom sticks for less than what I paid, but as I said I felt that I would get what I paid for when the price was suggested and didn't want to "haggle" because of circumstances.
Hope that was what the misunderstanding was, else we have a new one. :)
Well, it's just that having an anime character on a fighting game arcade stick seems out-of-place, that's all. I mean, imagine having a similar decal covering the hood of your car.
Ah, I getcha.
The anime style in and of itself shouldn't be weird since there are countless custom sticks with anime characters on them (from Ryu and Chun-Li adaptations to game unrelated ones), and as for relevance it's hardly a dedicated "fighting stick" (which is just a pointless label anyway); I've definitely played more shoot 'em ups with it and at least the Japanese ones (i.e. most good) obviously aren't strangers to the style.
Already covered why Revy in particular, pure badass :) Can't wait for season 3.
Anime character on a car? Why not, but I probably wouldn't pay to get it done (or redone when kids with keys ruin it :@).
does this joystick really improve your streetfighter play?
Or is it just a collector's item?
I personally find playing with a gamepad much more comfortable than with an arcade stick, but I am not a hardcore beat em up player, so I don't know.
it's more accessible than previous Street Fighters in terms of execution for basic moves, everything else is just as hard..
considering the engine has most combos based on links and the focus attack is incredibly versatile, it's a good compromise
nobody ever will win by easily mashing special moves alone. the noobs can fireball and dragon punch without being frustrated, while the advanced players can dabble with more intricate things.
Sagat breaks the game. I can't even begin to understand what the fuck where they thinking when they decided to give him the best of everything except walking speed.
I would say Seth breakes the game (if were talking about the console version). Otherwise I think the game is quite well balanced ('cept a few characters).
Sagat just has everything:
- Ridiculously high damage and chip damage
- Best special in the game (Tiger Knee)
- Some of the best, if not the best, normals (HK, f.HK, c.MK, etc)
- Best fireballs / best zoning game
- Thousand ways to combo into ultras
- Huge amount of life
- Good FA
The only bad thing he has is walking speed, but since he can advance a lot with the tiger knee and it's completely safe on block, it's a minor annoyance at most.
I guess there is a reason why you don't see anyone on the "pro circuit" playing with a gamepad. I'm already doing harder combos at will, and I have only had it for half a day.
I would say the biggest impact of choice was the overall comfort of the stick. It just ooze of quality. The main difference I would say is the weight, the way you can rest your wrists on it (if you play that way, for example sitting in a lower position than the stick (stick of low table, you on the floor)), and the general easyness to change parts.
Also, it looks fucking awsome. ^^
I wouldn't say it has an enormous impact vs other sticks. But I'm sure you would have to change the parts due to weardown more frequent when using lower quality stuff. About the stiffness I would say it's about right for me. I don't like to stuggle with keeping the stick where I want it, and it the feathers back into its original position fast.
Also, you have to remember that it is a square gate. So if you like octagonal gates better, you should consider modding it. In my opinion square gate is the way to go when playing charge characters though (and it's not a big problem when playing shoto characters either imo).
This stick is the best investment ever, my buddy has the xbox and I've been carting it around for the past month awaiting the release of sf4 on pc (I refuse to buy an xbox and play on shitty xbox live). Still thinking about investing in the samsung 2233rz so I have the perfect display to play on tho :|
When SF4 comes out for PC I'll either get one of these or buy a new Logitech Dualman.
*Pad advantage*
Silent *play anytime with no whines off other people)
Cheap (20 quid)
Reasonably effective in ST, must be a lot more so given they made moves easier to execute.
*Pad disadvantage*
Harder to get out certain moves.
Less precise
Frustrating at a high level of play when you need the extra precision of a stick.
*Stick advantage*
More precise and robust.
*Stick disadvantage*
Noisy
Expensive
A £100 pound investment on top of the £20 joypad.
I would have cried myself to sleep every night if I would have bought a pad instead of a stick now that I know what it's like to play with a good stick. =P
I've already placed my pre-order of SF4 to PC. I will get it this friday. It's one of the few times I've actually bought a game for two platforms. ^^
(and yes, none properly formated pictures ftw!)
