Ive had the WMO 1.1a for 2 years now, and it just started failing (turning off by itself in windows randomly, sometimes turning on again when unplugged and replugged, sometimes not.) not bad for a $10 mouse, and its been overclocked to 500hz since day 1.

I think I'm going to get a mx518 and try my first "Gaming" mouse (using an old ball mouse in the interim, heheh), but i'll probably get a WMO 1.1 for a backup cause they rock so much face. I'm actually thinking of getting an IME 3.0 because it shares the same sensor and has the two additional buttons, but i hear they feel cheaply made, and one of the best things about the WMO1.1a is the solidarity of the damn thing, it's just made *right*.

I just bought the 3.0 a few months ago, because some of the guys around here recommended it. I didn't regret it, but yeah - the thumb buttons on the side are very cheaply made, especially the bigger one. I tried three of them at my local store and all of them had problems with this very button. I figured I'm not the only person with a 'broken' 3.0, but you'll get used to it and apart from this the mouse is pretty much what I wanted to get.

Before that I had a diamondback and before that an mx500 and I'm more than happy with my new mouse. After looking for a suited mouse I can tell you just one thing: There are lots of different GOOD mouses(/mice?) around and there probably won't be THE BEST mouse, so just pick the one which feels comfy and go for it.

I think they just OC'd the ports on their own at tournaments without telling people. Why even bother, takes two seconds, no one's going know.

Technically OC tool for mouse is mouse drivers. If you can do it with a Razer mouse in it's software, why can't you do it with a MS one?

you don't even need drivers for the newer mouse like salmosa/g9/etc.
problem with "overclocking" the usb port at tournaments is that you'd need a reboot to do that. that's illegal though :) and i kinda doubt people like stermy used to just do this.

whoever saying this is a complete retarded moron, in my whole life i havent seen any case when something was damaged because of raising usb frequency

still doesn't mean it can't happen, 500hz should be no problems, going too high might be taking a risk though.

why do you think that 500hz is totally ok and 1000hz is TOO high ...

the 1.1 shouldn't have any problem whatsoever running 1000Hz for years
but the 1.1's cable is crap and tends to break (a friend of mine has only had 1.1's at 1000Hz for as long as i know him - couple of years) and when it turned itself off it was because the cable was broken and windows' powermanagement was set to default (turn this off to save electric power) so every time it went off it wouldn't come back on without replugging it
another friend got himself one of those steelseries 1.1s - was quite expensive but afaik he hasn't had any problem with it at all - running it at 1000Hz aswell

i had the exact same problem, it would be fine for 5-7mins or so, then choppy as fuck. Putting my usbport @ 250hz seemed to sort it for me, but some say they had to up it to 500.

I've always wondered how people handle this situation at lans. Stermy said that he likes 500hz more but uses 125 because of lans. How dumb.

Personally I find 125hz pretty terrible. Neg accel is no good!

Apart from overclocking the USB port, one can always play using USB to PS/2 converter.

This way you can have pretty 200 hz without USB port overclocking and without any jittering and choppiness. I use this approach now with IME 3.0 on my GA-EP45T-UD3R.

Of course, if you are using lappy, you are doomed.

On this board, when I use both WMO and IME on USB with 125 hz, then for some minutes it is smooth as silk and then choppines mayhem starts. Through PS/2 at 200 hz, no such effects are noticed.

The problem is really strange, and affects both AMD and Intel motherboards, both ATI and Nvidia video cards (although, not sure whether it is relevant). Probably, it is Windows HID device handling problem, dunno.

If would be nice to hear someone from Linux crowd on this topic. Is there the same problem with Q3 running on Linux?

i know it shouldn't, and i'm not suggesting that 125 Hz is better than 500 Hz..
I don't even get how a differenz in Hz can affect the way i move around with the mouse, thus not getting why my aim was worse when i had 500Hz.
Yet i feel more comfortable using 125.

give your self some days to adapt to the new smoothness, you gonna be much better

i bought an ie 3.0 1 and a half years ago, overclocked it to 500hz, and it still works :} the only thing that broke meanwhile was the mouse1 button, which i then glued again (and then later on broke again during a pcw, which forced me to shoot with mouse2 3 maps long :X)
