Okay so after much thought and review reading i finally got my hands on an Madcatz tournament edition fight stick.

I can honestly say it is really nice to use.... Except i suck just now

Does anyone have any pointers on how to practice with one?

as i am having trouble even pulling a double hadoken engaged ultra. I am a home grown SF legend with no experience in arcades.

also when do buffer the charge for chun li's focus attack to ultra? can't seem to nail that one at all

I guess practice is gonna take you there eventually, but u might wanna try to find a good way to hold the stick.. some prefer to hold it like a wine glass with various amount of fingers under the ball etc.

you play sf4 right? then you should know about the shortcut(s) in sf4 for the shoryuken(though no shortcut for hadouken):

I wouldn't get used to that, just because every other game (except SF4) uses only real dp motions and you'll need to learn them anyway.

I would say do the trials. Over and over. They really help you clean up your game in the beginning. Most of them are really easy to do, but you get stuck once in a while and that's when you learn the most.

It just takes time till you don't THINK about how to use the stick, but FEEL it. I hadn't played any fighting game on arcade or with a stick, but last year I got one and it took a few month for me to get used to it.

Anyway, about how to hold the joystick, there's this video (which came from this thread).
Personally, I use the method which he calls "The No Homo".

About Chun's ultra charge, you just hold back during the FA and do the motion ending after it recovers (maybe I'm not understanding your problem with it).
