Definitely. You'll be able to run it at 1680x1050 on Enthusiast settings. Not sure about 1920x1080 but Gamer settings will be ok at that res. Gamer looks amazing too.
For Crysis even E8400 is more than enough. Quad cores don't make Crysis run faster for some reason.
It's because it's only coded for multithreaded dual core, not quad threaded.
Higher clock speeds are what counts the most, on a dual core. If a quad core has the same high clock speeds then that would work just as well as the dual core, but there's no advantage for quad over dual.
So far, the only game out that I know of that takes advantage of 4 core, truly, is Supreme Commander. I'm sure there's been some game released in the last few months though that is actually optimized for quad, but I haven't heard about it yet.
TF2, GTA4 and Far Cry 2 also work better with quads. GTA4 is a shitty console port so dunno what to think about it really. Far Cry 2 runs a little better on quads.
I did some tests in TF2 on Q9650 and found the minimum fps to be much higher than E8400. Both are 3ghz cpus.
Its interesting how a Q9650 rig ran TF2 much better despite only having a 8800GTS 512mb GPU. E8400 rig had a GTX 285, a much faster GPU. Source engine is all about CPU.
It does on my rigs. I'll test some more. On E8400 my fps can drop to 40fps on 28 player instaspawn 2fort server. On Q9650 its about 70. Average fps is not much higher on Q9650 but minimum is.
But I'll do another test because its hard to get same conditions on both machines. Sometimes ppl build like 3 sentries on the bridge and this affects fps big time.
