I totally agree, I have never understood whats so great in this kind of defrag movies.. these guys have just trained so fucking much that they can do that, who cares? If you could use these tricks to surprise ur enemy or something like that it would be sure... but now its like for nothing

Trickers found other ways to enjoy the game, explored it, developed techniques, created a framework to excel and to find freedom of perfect movement in quniverse.
Try loading defrag and jumping around for an hour. You will gain 100x appreciation for their skill, imagination, coordination, and, possibly, you will like it yourself.

Freestyle is pretty boring though, I like watching the time trial defrag stuff though.

If by freestyle you mean a series of simple tricks executed in one long sequence - yes, it can get quite boring to a movie audience. I can do nothing but agree here...

I like watching flag runs done as fast as possible.

I have tried Defrag.. didnt like it. You guys should just play more games like Action Quake 2 / RQ3 to see how jumps are meant to be used as a way to move rapidly throught map, not just because they look cool or require skill..

No it's not.

Well these movies suck in case of editing and i dont think these tricks are something hard, because as i understand most of them are used in dm, or what ever you play there. Q3 has tricks on default maps which help you to move in-game, but these tricks are super-primitive. Plus you can play with cpm physics, which will allow you to bunnyhop/make doublejumps/ramjumps etc.

Still, to your original question "who cares?" - a lot of people find it fascinating. You should check how big defrag community is.

I personally enjoy quality tricking movies a lot more because they, especially with excellent soundtrack and elusive camera work, provide more replay value. Shaolin, temporal, nexoge, thoca and other producers make movies that I can load up and watch any day. GQ3 is about the only frag video i can rewatch any time. There's a lot more to a good trick then to a good frag.

jumpmod is so much more skillful than q3 tricking which uses too many weapon jumps, its a shame RQ3 didnt really take off, its far better than UrT

And that is the point when you are wrong. Maps made for Defrag vq3 DON'T need double/ramp jumps to be skillful. That is why when you want play promode on some vq3 maps there are destroyed totally - one dj and we can go right to the end.

I suggest you to watch some Promode movies like "Promode Movement" and "Promode Tricks" to see how jumps are meant to be used as a way to move rapidly through map, not just because they look cool or require skill.

Those two moves show nothing but BASIC 1-level tricks. If you call them "example of great trickjumping" it shows only that you don't have a clue about what trickjumping is.

Lot people will agreed that Q3 suffers greatly because of lacking doublejump. QL don't even have OB so another aspect of tj was taken from the game. Currently the best platform for trickjumping is Defrag and i doubt that we see something better for the next 10 years...

Defragging doesn't always have to be about showing off good timing. For me, defragging is like riding a motorcycle. Once you're flying as fast as a plasma shot, you just can't help but feel free and invincible. There's probably tons of other reasons why people do trick jumps, but defragging is an all out art form. Don't knock it till you try it.

like the diagonal OB. u can see one of those for example in w3sp strafes on the map mega-wood

The only wrong thing with the movie is the music. Its too monotone, no great syncing points in it, so the synchronization is not realy appreciable. Tricks are ok, the quality is realy nice.

couldn't watch it all the way through, trickingmovies never seem to bring anything new, at all.

i liked it. eye candy, and pretty sweet moves.

liked it, although the quick switches between 3rd and 1st person were a bit distracting at times, in my oppinion.
