What makes those players great/credible is their ability to perform in other games they have played with wider playerbases. There's no doubting VoO's reputation is not as high when he plays outside of PK.

In GaRpY's case apparently you think he was some kind of god in HLDM yet in every other FPS he has competed in he hasn't even looked vaguely close to the really top level players.

So, he came to ONE international tournament when competitive quake was in its infancy (seriously, watch those demos), and the only map he managed to win consistently is the one that is universally considered the most luck-based of all, yet every australian sucks him off like it's the only way to score their next hit of heroin. You can't get faceraped on all the other maps and say "LOLOL IT'S OKAY ONLY DM2 COUNTS".

Did he have talent? I have no doubt of this. You don't dominate any local scene without talent.

Did he develop it fully? Not a chance, and neither do most people when they're not faced with lots of stiff LPB competition in a low ping game like qw.

Also, saying Griffin and Dag had no natural talent is hilarious. They, amongst others, rose to the top of the far more competitive european pile in an age when almost everyone had good connections in a scene with far more good players.

Reload was good, but not as good as dozens of european players I could name. Maybe he could have become just as good, or the fabled BEST PLAYAR EVAR you seem to think he was based on nothing but national pride (he's egyptian btw), if he had more top-tier players to compete with in a fair environment, but that kind of speculation is pointless. You take your best 4 duellers from texas and play against the best in the UK. It would be total rape.

If we had a bigger play base we would produce more good players. Its mostly a numbers game.
Sweden is different because they have LAN like play conditions, so its easier for them to develop.

Russia and the USA have massive populations, also Russia have lots of LAN conditions. So its much esier to produce a player there, hence the best players are usually from the USA or Russia. Basic math really.

Jamerio is right with the size and populations, its same with the Olympics and the countries development level (LEDC, MEDC etc), in gaming terms network size. But i can promise you now a major factor is culture! Gaming in the uk is still considered geeky by a lot of females, and male gamers the majority are newbie console gamers not pc gamers of which are more casual then hardcore.
UK gamers are not shit, theres a lot of good uk gamers that have the potential, we just don't put in the time, too busy on the piss.
