It's not fixed yet, but there is a chance!! Just be happy for now with the small offline event and wait for more news! Carmac and quite a few more guys at Turtle are working on getting Quake Live big in eSports and within ESL, so give them a chance.

Last year it was worth travelling to the US and Dubai, don't know the exact pot, but think it was quite similar. And the 500k is for the world tour, not QL.

I never said it was awesome because QL is getting a lot of money, it's awesome because e-sports looks to be somewhat stable right now, and ESL. It's good to have that money in CS, so eventually we can work QL up to better things.

UT3 didnt had a lot of prize money, a few hundred euros and offline finals only happened because teams and players asked for it and paid all expenses on their own!!

I know, everyone wants back a World Tour with $1.000.000 prize money for a duel shooter, but look where it ended? Its economic suicide to do something like that in current times and also in better times. eSport is just not that far, especially in duel games. The $1.000 tournament is a small kick off for visitors of the fair, nothing else. There is no bigger tournament on gamescom because the game isnt just ready. It's still a beta and ID has Quakecon soon and needs to take care of that, before they can deliver the support for other leagues, to run big offline tournaments, which is totally understandable.

Leagues can already spawn private servers, so expect a lot more competition there and it's just a matter of time until prolly more people or everyone can, just give them time. CS wasn't big overnight as well, but flaming and talking bad about everything that's just starting won't help either.

Support your community, create tournaments, help on community websites etc. It's the community that makes a game big and nothing else.

Let's see how it plays out at gamescom and wait for more to come, in a year or two, when quake live hasnt made it then, than you can flame and say, ok duel gaming didnt worked out again, but until than support the community and just help.

The makers of QL can sell in-game advertising. Everytime I go on I see movie promotions, food promotions (like Pizza Pizza) and other advertisements (like Rogers).

i dont get why people tend to think that quake is easy to learn but hard to master, some so called "wise" said this and now everyone is copying his thoughts?

imo quake is hard to learn and hard to master, learning quake is a long process and you need to put a lot effort in it. SF4 seems more like a game easy to learn, but hard to master. Quake should be same way, it should be made easier to get to level where mindgame decides games instead of experience, thats also how its in SF4 from that i know.

a game where experience doesn't matter is a game lacking in depth. still quake live needs to be more accessible to new players.

Mind games are all about experience.

Mechanical functions are all about time and practice (aim, timing, map knowledge etc.).

Use wasd to move, use your mouse to aim, press the left button to shoot, scroll up/down to switch weapons... Halo is probably more complicated to learn than Quake.

Edit, what you are referring to as "learning" is actually the process of "mastering" the game. Usually when people talk about learning, it's about the very basics needed to be able to play/enjoy the game.

I think it's so hard to even tell when someone have learned quake fully, I always seems to find something new to learn every time I play quake and I feel like I never experienced that so much in other games, you always learn how to circle jump and strafe jump faster, better and more flexible every time and so on...

With CS you have to explain that there is a bomb, you can win a round by killing the enemy or defusing the bomb/planting the bomb and wait till it explodes.

You HAVE to know this before understanding the game. With QL you only have to understand that you need to kill each other. The RA, YA and mega are for those who want to look deeper into the game.

I come from a team FPS background, and I instantly understood Quake without a problem and enjoyed it alot more. Because it is so easy accessible is the reason it is at the IEM.

I truly hope that valve's developers will go in hell for making so shity games...

Yes there is a Event from 19th to 23rd August on which more details will be revealed and it will be also the first tournament for WoW for the whole tournament. There will be more offline events all over the world, at least six in total, but there also will be a fair amount of online tournaments as qualifications for the offline events. It was $750.000 Last season...

We're in the middle of the credit crunch, and 500k is still better than any event out there at the moment.

500.000 : 6 : 2 = 41666,66$ per event per game, almost as good as QuakeCon and that is only once per year.

This is a nice start, I think we will see big tournaments for QL soon enough.
