Vo0 is now admittedly out of shape and doesn't know the maps he's losing on and he still took ZTN (of all maps -- Walter should be better on this than Vo0 by default since it's one of the trademark VQ3 maps and Walter is supposed to be this Godly player in VQ3).

I'm not going to judge, since I haven't watched the demos/VOD, but if he gave griffin a good game then you have to give walter credit.

Beating me proves nothing. I'm terribly inactive. In fact, the last time I played quake live was probably somewhere in march, and before march, it was quakecon last year. I showed up cause it's a 40 minute drive from where I live. I didn't even have my gaming peripherals with me the first day, as I hadn't even planned on "competing". :)
Anyway, he's a nice guy but whether he cheated or not remains in the dark! He told me he never cheated, though :P

To me, this LAN should be the one that puts to rest doubts about Walter (and apparently kgb since he wanted to be referred to as kgb the hacker).

Just from my experiences spread through several games (yeah I've never been as good as the top players, but not terrible either), getting used to LAN is a separate skill set. The level of noise from the vendors, people walking around you, different computers, lighting, temperature, and on and on are variables usually not stacked in your favor. When I was good (haha), usually the main thing that got me were nerves and cold - I'd go from having a strong shaft and midpack rail on the internet to either a bit better or significantly worse at events, even when I practiced regularly on LAN. Even at this event, the computer I used for my first 1v1 Open match felt completely different than the one for my CTF match. Anyhow, there are variables and the simple assumption that "you should be just as good if not better on LAN" doesn't really work out, even for mid tier players. I've seen and been through enough to get it...part of the reason I tried to get Walter down here a while back is because I felt reasonably qualified to say "oh yeah, smells like a fish."

After spitting out all of that, watching kgb this year was different from before - it could have been experience, or calmness, or different preparation, but he definitely played at the same level as he does online, and any accusations of cheating at this point have no real ground to stand on. Walter didn't rape the world like some ppl on here need for proof of innocence, but at the same time playing in the masters tournament wasn't a cakewalk for anyone (except maybe rapha!). He didn't look like some disoriented cheater who was playing without assistance, he just looked like someone who was in a loud, freezing room on a completely unfamiliar computer, with all sorts of external expectations. Whatever affected him didn't seem unusual or alarming, and various accusations or statements of doubt are, to me, unwarranted.

And vo0 is selling himself short. He could play blindfolded on a 386 with a serial ball mouse and still beat quite a few folks :)

If express that you feel happy for another guy, that puts you in a superior position, cause you imply that a) your life is so good you can afford to feel happy for other and b)he must have been in a bad position before (accused by nerds, oh the horror). You try to emphasize that with writing really in caps.
You repeat point b) by claiming it removed some weight from his shoulders, again implying that he actually had weight on his shoulders, again putting you in a better light by comparison.
And in the end you again pretend to be benevolent, by saying "no matter how he performed", implying he performed badly (even though is was on par with the likes of garpy and HELL). While in fact you were happy he didn't perform perfectly, because that would have shed a bad light on your argumentation in previous threads.
