It's a lan, but they will be playing fairly close to the DE servers. BTW, rapha flew to Germany to play in it.

Pathetic that event organisers can't run LAN games... actually, it's pathetic that no one can play LAN games unless they go to QuakeCon.

I hope they won't release demos three weeks after the event, like they did on esl qlive show
people should have the option to chose stream or demos, forcing people into watching streams by denying the demos at the right time is a lame way of promoting the streams

It is quite simple. If there's a tournament organised by an IPTV station, then it is only natural they would want to report decent numbers to sponsors (both live and VOD). Sponsors want to see those numbers before they spend more money on tournaments like the ESL TV Invite.

If you want those tournaments to keep happening, then I suggest that you either support whoever it is organising them by tuning in to the stream or watching VODs, or you find them another way to make money :)

I rather preffer not following them anymore, because -and I know it might sound crazy :p - this way I feel manipulated, and I don't like to be manipulated, the first cause of me rarely opening the tv is the commercials and other things wich force me to watch things I don't want the way I don't want, so as you can see I finally decided not to -same thing will happen to streams, soner or later -sponsors are no clue guys who were stepping with their left foot into this business already, by putting OUR needs (all the streams and demos now, not three weeks later, when no1 will even remember the event) behind THEIR needs (resulting in poor/partial casting and limited options)
I have a better suggestion: gtv, with their exclusive rights on hosting it -would it not give the sponsors same number of viewers-guys accessing their site? hosting the demos on a page with visual commecials, things which don't INTERFERE with our time, etc.

So selfish.. only me me me I want demos me me me! I rather have a lot of money tournaments by ESL than have those demos. If you feel manipulated by this, you should stop watching tv, reading the news paper and stop listening to people because "manipulations" like these happen every where as people want to make money and making money keeps the world spinning.

gtv does not offer the same capabilities/value for advertising as a stream

eSports fans don't need anything specific as long as they get to see the game! Or do you need demos for the sake of having demos? Or do you need to watch the MATCH?

well tbh demos do show the game better imo aka you don't miss sounds and you can see better why people do what.
But for most people a stream would be the most enjoying way to watch a game :)

imagine this, if I see the demo of a match once, second time the demo starts I can already tell what demo is running and I can remember the match
the stream matches I was spectating I can't recall them
same goes for quakecon 2008 matches, even if I like the casting there, especially the grabbing the balls procedure you was explaining when zero4 was playing on t6, or the "I was brutaly being interrupted by cypher being good" statement, xD, I was not able to make pertinent analysis on the matches and efectively "feel the flow" until I got my hand on the demos
with the streams the image of a match is incomplete

If someone pays the expenses of the players, I don't see any reason why they shouldn't go. Most of these lads have got pretty good sponsors. And the Germans would probably go there anyway, just to see one of the largest exhibitions in their country.

Quite obviously cause their sponsors pay them for it. The more tournaments they go to the more attention their sponsors get. Its business and its good.

Most of the players main sponsors and/or teams will take part in gamescom anyway. So why not do 2 things in 1 trip. Another reason might be that it's in Germany = Central Europe and not far for anyone really, flights are not costly either.

For me, I live 7 minutes train ride away from the event. I would have been there anyway :)

Are maps known yet? I hope theres no t9 in there, not much fun to watch 2 minutes of offense and 8 minutes of defense/portal camping.

I saw him yesterday on a .DE pub. His movement is rusty, but his natural aim skill is pretty decent. He might need some time to catch up.

If this is his profile then yeah his rail and lg is already really strong but he needs to work on his rocket skills it seems. Nice to see him semi active again.

8ms on the german servers, with some ping spikes up to 20-30 every now and then which can fuck up movement or shots, but its playable really :)

Damnt now i know why i suck. Its because my 60-70 ping with 120-150 spikes \o/

playing with spikes is impossible imo
it frustrates the ****** **** out of me all the times
