We're seeing a lot of Quake Live players starting to pickup CPM, and I figured W2 would at least be a familiar map to them. I don't expect many of the teams to pick it, but I wanted to at least give these newly formed teams made up of QL players the option.

I would've taken cc2/3/4 instead of cp22 since it's not really suited for CTF, too.

Tossed them out? I dunno. But the new monitors are like some random Samsung LCD/TFTs. I haven't played on them yet so I dunno if I can judge. They still haven't set up the systems. Maybe this week some time?

I've read the post 4 times, i can't really find the specific rules on europeans entering? and it says its OPEN to europeans, since nineX is american i guess this tournament is mainly USA....? Might wanna clarify it a bit, oh and fix the link to the irc channel. Probably give a link to those rules you mentioned as well.

In the rules section of the tournaments.

"- In cases of high difference in pings, players should try to find a location that will facilitate even ping. If this cannot be done, maps will be split between two locations. If a third map is needed, server location will be decided by an admin."

So basically, 1 game on EU, 1 game on US, then decider US.

cpm23: bad choice imo. Far too easy to armour run the RA YA (particularly bad) combination.

Agreed. Though I prefer the freshness of rarely played maps. Afterall, it's just a "for fun only" tournie.

Reqtourney1 is a piece of shit

to be more specific, not too happy with the map selection.
first of all let me say thanks for organizing a tourney, it's what promode needs. the mappool is not a crime against humanity, but not very good either.
akuma, astronomy are excellent, cpm23 is a gorgeous and fluid map but items are unbalanced, the ztn remake ok i guess, never played it, and reqtourney 1 is a piece of shit and should burn in hell forever.

even akuma and astronomy, easily the best of the bunch by a long shot, are - right now - hardly played at all from what i gather though, so what will most likely happen is most players who would be interested in a cup will take a glance at the mappool, throw up a little in their mouth when they see reqtourney1, then look at signups and see someone like light or hal9000 signed up and lose every hope of being able to compete on such unfamiliar grounds.

Obviously I would have liked to see the old 5 and maybe an addition of 2 "kenyas", however a 7 map-mappool in a tourney using bo3-format may feel bloated, i dont know really.
What promode needs is life, and that means people, it needs people who keep playing it and new people to play it.
making a tournament with a purely custom map selection is not going to help
A tournament with 1a,3a,15,22,24 on the other hand will not put off any active 1v1 players who may be interested in a cup. Any gtv watchers or even ustream if someone manages to get a stream and commentary up for final matches(wheat? would be so <3) see crazy skilled, high-level play on the competition proven maps, some of which are played since almost a decade now, and that makes them want to try this game. And that's what promode needs.
And newbie cps, but that one I have not much hope for right now, especially since seever/maertz vanished.

it doesnt need individually highskilled players stumbling around, fucking about on maps even only one out of five promode players has seen, or played for that matter. My guesswork my be failing me here, and probably is. Probably even less than that.

I've played about 15 - 20 duels on it and they were all "fun". The map needs some time to develop some interesting strats for gameplay, and it does borrow a bit from maps like cpm22 and cpm15 but I think it's got enough originality to sustain it as its own map.

ur missing the point of the tourney. its not meant to bring cpm back to life or anything lofty like that. its just meant to be a fun tourney with some different maps, so we can see some action different from the usual 5 maps.

also since its run by americans the euros dont seem too interested. thats prolly why theres nobody around to play the maps. if u dont mind playing hpb im sure u could find people from #uscpmpickup.

and no req isnt shit. apart from akuma its prolly the best of the lot.

after running around on req and playing it once or twice, it just feels wrong and really doesn't make me want to learn it in the first place. it also feels way too big.

akuma is quite the opposite, feels fresh and fun right from the start although the geometry might be a bit too tight.

cpm23 seems solid too, we already had some pro games on gtv on it anyway

nodm19 feels quite weird because it plays so differently than original ztn, will need to give it and others another go for sure. was fun for starters though.

dunno i felt kinda the same way the first time i tried it. especially with the red textures. but i think once u figure the structure out its fine.

dunno, areas feel either too cramped (like around ya, jumppads) or too open (down at rail), and it's fairly big too which doesn't really help :s
