In particular - has anyone given Sky a go? A bit of googling reveals that it is possible to get them to tweak their settings. This guy for example seems to have got his ping down from 50 to 25 then down to 10:

The BE and Nildram websites say I won't be able to get more than 4 meg.

thats the type of stuff you read on a forum but when you try it yourself the guy on the other end of the line is a clueless jerk so your ping stays 100

Be is great, connection never goes down

no problems with copyright notices and solid 1.8MB dl's

for gaming i dunno these days, but 16ms stable to jolt for what its worth

I'm on BE. It did go down a couple of times in my first month with them but since then it's been running great. True 20mbit connection (obviously this depends on your phone line) and I get about 30 ping in QL across Western Europe.

Also recommend Be, they are great, people envy my conenction ;) . Watch it fuck up now :(

I woudl have recommended plusnet - but ive recently started running in to their bandwidth caps which is a bit of an arse - that and the fact they havent been pinging particularly well this week (although i think that might be down to quakelive).
