Reality sucks.. video games are a great way to escape from reality.

btw forza2 on xbox 360 pretty good no realism whatever. but i refuse to buy anything for my xbox anymore.

I prefer Need for Speed Carbon with G25 over Live for Speed. Fun as hell :D

We're still in the movement towards greater and greater
realism in games. It's what sells, both hardware and
software so that's what you see.

I was against this from the get go, because I found that
the gameplay in newer games was getting really lousy, and
graphics didn't matter to me much anyways. I have always
and still do love high framerates though. It's just that I thought
games were a nice escape from reality, not an imitation of it.
When that one game came out where you have to serve
customers at a diner I knew it was about as bad as it could
get. I mean hey, when you come home from work, why not
load up a video game that is just like being at work, except that
you don't get paid. Sounds exciting eh?

Nowadays people have begun to see that gameplay is
so very important and have started to come back to it.
I think the fact that Mega Man 9 resembles Mega Man 2
is a pretty good indication that people are at least aware of
problem.

this is the problem with quake 3 ...
id removed all the movementstuff, because hopping around and jumping around corners is unrealistic, now you see what quake has become ...

of course quake live is still a good multiplayer platform,
it just lacks some spice, some more movement options wouldn't harm the game ... but now the gameplay is at it is, and change will only cause trouble, but of course it is still playable ...
but you know the original reasons for removing bunnyhopping according to carmack was that it looked stupid (he really said something like that), there was no idea, that it is better gameplaywise to leave it out.
and the machinegun as strong start weapon was added, so newbs wouldn't get up totally owned.
And I guess they removed air control because it is unrealistic.

You know it's like the Win9x era ... where bluescreens frequently showed up and you could reinstall your system every 4 months ... and still it was the by far most used os ... and everyone had to use it because there was no real alternative ...

But all in all, I don't want to talk about this anymore, I'm sick of it ...

It's just different.

In ql/q3 you have air acceleration instead of air control, strafejumps instead of bunny hopping. you can duck(also while in the air), then there are new bugs like the corner clipping bug (got bigger again in QL! really cool), with skill you can keep some momentum even when turning. Let me say it again, it's just different :)

strafejump was invented in q1 and continued in q2, originally it was a bug though, not a feature

ducking is possible in q2, and tbh. I don't see what it's good for in QL (maybe in Q4 for these gliding stuff (I quit q4 before the patch, which took a long, long time, was released enabling that stuff, so I do not really know)

and tbh. ql is not different, it is a dumbed down quake,
of course this dumbed down quake can still be played competitively,

it's like simplified chess game, like a chess game with knights removed from the board.
