I don't think it's called Dance Dance revolution, just remembered some huge Asian sc and cs lan (can dig it up if you need it, don't see any point in that tho) use a arcade dancing game (buttons on the ground, touch them at the right times as if dancing to score points) and named the first dancing video game I remembered, sorry if I confused you :)

teamwork - yes, but too bad they had to remove any personal skill to achieve it.

thats bullshit, some guys own at dota, some dont, no matter how much time they put into it. its not random counterstrike.

CS is pretty similar game in that regard I'd say, its not luck based, just that on what you can improve its all teamwork & aim. I'm not saying you can't get good or anything, its just that if you practice, for ex., Starcraft, for as much you will do a lot more of amazing stuff and won't cap your skill in so many ways. Skill ceilings lead to more % of teamwork, but IMO it's all possible on a game with a high personal skill ceilings too, just that it's NOT (Edit right there ^^) going to be as accented.

It's teamwork to 110% which sucks..

Meh, would rather see ca2 in the map list over dm6, t4, dm13 or ZTN. At the very least at least that poll has t7 in the top, but any new map would be better then seeing the same 10 year old map list.

What the hell does age have to do with quality of a map?
Maps don't change with time, they're either good or not.
Preferring "any map" over those that are tested and proven to be good is ridiculous. We all want to see some new maps, but they must be at least in the same league as the ones we already have and certainly not as horrible as ca2.

Eh, so far as old maps go i've always just seen t4 as a crap aim fest (Even in vq3), dm13 isn't balanced anymore and dm6 has been shit for yonks. ZTN isn't half bad but i'd still like to see something new and everyone saying aero should come back... Yeah nah, new maps please.

If it we're up to me (And a lot of people are probably saying thank God it's not), i'd make the tournament maplist ca2/t6/t7/t9/new-map.

SC maps are dead-easy to make and even then, being made by professionals for money still happen to have terrible balance occasionally.

Quake maps are 10 times as hard and time-consuming to make. The imbalances that you speak of in t4, dm13 and dm6 are nothing compared to the BS that the railfests named t6 and ca2 are and the spamfest that the t9 is.

well, the point applies to all quakes, where they were able to add maps, too :) But yes, id needs to do something about it.

correct, sc maps are far easier to make, even though sometimes they get bit unbalanced(see:gom season 2)

yet the main reason quake is stuck on the same mappool for what, 8 years, is because the playerbase is stubborn. there are far more than 5-6 playable q3 maps, yet nobody bothers.

Well the community is somewhat ready for the change, we just need the maps now, I'm pretty sure id will organize a map contest or anything like that (but not sure when...) and we will have something like 2 old - 3 new maps.

The link for strenx's demo does not work atm, and if an article about this tourney is being posted on this site anyway, what is the point in NOT putting the demos up on the site as well and actually being able to download them, which isn't the case here....

Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that zoday is doing this and it's a nice addition to the pocket money. You just can't expect anyone to live off it.

Yes, it would be, but it's as if it's just 6 hours with all the practice you probably need.

And the real problem for living off it would be that it's not nearly often enough.
If there were one or two tournaments a day, then it would start becoming an option.

I actually think cups like this are a great idea (that applies to cups / tournaments with "tiny" prizes too like the Q2 jump). Yes, €400 a month isn't much but it's a good start. Let's say six other organisations take it upon themselves to run a weekly one day cup. Suddenly that prize figure jumps. Enough interest and the organisation attracts interest from sponsors thus increasing the prize (or hopefully, the number of people who receive prizes). Then there are also the LANs which still run. Looking at this cup as the only one that exists is short-sighted.

It's €100 for playing a game that didn't have much of an amatuer period. Things like this and free cups are back to the basics; back to when bragging rights were important - much better than running a tournament, "awarding" $3m or so and not paying half of it.

It also helps players - if they have some business sense. If players make themself seen; i.e. play in the public eye as much as possible, they are rewarding the sponsor - much more attractive proposal than sponsoring a player who will never be associated with your brand...
