I also read about a study that humans have an inner clock that works based on how hungry you are, animal instinct or something. strenx... he beat almost all the european pros (including noctis) at several online tourneys, so if he can get his game togather on lan he will be really REALLY great.

cypher.... you can't count him out either, altho I don't know in what shape he is, his play on qcon seemed quite sloppy, but if he is in shape he can take it also.

To prove the point more: @IEM pro/am. Rapha/fox/spart1e/noctis were final 4. QuakeCon was only a few days before pro/am. So the same players did well, with the exception of noctis, who is obviously a great player.

What's my point? QCON to GCOM, showed the consistent results of the better players. 3 out of the top 6 at QCON were Americans.

Thats how every high level quake game is...Both players are very capable of winning the match, it's just who controls their nerves better and makes less mistakes. I agree that there are about 5-6 players in this tournament that are very capable of winning it, but it's kind of stupid to count rapha out, he has a very good chance of winning.

Well, your wrong there my friend, because sadly, sometimes the other player doesnt have a chance to win. For example strenx didnt lose a dm6 in ages, he didnt even die once in most matches (and yes, I'm talking about pro matches). So yes, there is a LARGE difference between pro and pro.

Sure, there is a chance that rapha could win, but I just don't count him to the favorites because I think that he was not THAT amazing at the last 2 events, I'd say that he had the better nerves then spart1e and noctis, if it was an online match they would have won in my opinion, and if they can overcome that I just can't see how rapha could win...

Same here, looking forward to see cooller and jibo as I can't really put them anywhere, don't have a clue what they can actually do, but I've seen jibo practicing like 5h+ a day recently, he even played strenx on dm13, he had a 50% lg against a 48 by strenx, that was awesome.

In the end we both might be proven wrong and one of them might win. :P

I'd love to see jibo finally win a tournament with all the top international players in attendance. He always seems to have a 3rd or 2nd place curse haha. I don't really see cooller placing better than 5-6th, as he really hasn't put effort into quake in many years and it has shown.

All the players you mention are great players and are capable of beating rapha. They haven't yet tho :P. Rapha definitely deserves to be considered among the favourites for the tournament. Any rational seeding system would have to have him at #1.

I think a lot of people are underestimating Dahang. He placed 4th at Quakecon, and hardly ever played Q3. Map knowledge is the only thing that is holding him back and I can only guess that he is going to be an even more difficult opponent this time around.

It doesn't make much sense to have a "World Championship" event in Quakelive. Competition wise, Quake is just too much like tennis and golf.

You might be the #1 player for a few events, but once you fall off by 1 or 2 percent, you're top 8. If tennis decided to call the Australian Open the "World Championship" and the other 3 events simply "big events", would the player who won therefore be better than the winner of Wimbledon? Of course not.

It's the same in Quake. Most of these events have the same players attending. It's not realistic to say that whoever wins one of them is "better overall" than the winner of the next or previous event. Certainly they're better at the moment, but whether it carries or not, only time will tell.

What really matters is consistency - winning or placing highly in a string of events over months or years. So I think it makes more sense to say whoever is #1 in the rankings after a series of events is the best player for that period of time, the same as tennis.

It doesn't hold for every game because often it's not possible to make the comparisons that are possible in tennis, golf and quake. You can't have the top 64 boxers in the world in single elimination tournaments every month, and the same is true for soccer, baseball, and most other team sports.

Deciding to call the olympics the world championships for tennis is consistent with my point - that it's just one tournament and not regarded as any more difficult to win than the majors. So there's nothing special about it aside from the title, and any of the majors could equally well be regarded as world championships.

Tennis cannot have a legitimate world championship because of the different court surfaces. But having a world championship in a game of basketball or soccer, where all the conditions are always the same, makes some sense if it's backed by a hefty sum of prize money, and enough motivation by the players to practice harder for that event than any other, and if the event can sponsor all the players from everywhere to attend, unlike an event like Dreamhack, where only Europeans go.

i don't think it's necessary to commentate every single match. I'd rather watch a game without commentary than a game that is commentated badly because the commentators just suck or didn't have a break in hours.
Though you need a person to switch POVs.

I am quite sure that we can use division of labour smartly. I haven't talked to James and Joe yet, but I am assuming that they will decide to commentate solo one at a time and pick up pro gamers to accompany them. Wouldn't you just love to hear Cooller's expert opinions on a shoutcast?
