besides, you can't just assume you win 3 times in a row and somehow compare it.. even if, most of the cases you don't even get the first fixture cashed before the next one closes..

5000 is an example figure, if that doesn't work for you, use a different amount.

The chance of winning three times in a row with 2.15 odds is the same as winning once with 10, so you can compare it exactly.

please explain to me how you do this math.. remember the odds are in no way representing the real likeliness of any winner because people look at the odds just as much as the name when they bet..

if you bet 5000 (which is the most you can bet), you win 10750.. 5000 of that is your bet so you actually just won 5750.. then you go and do one exact same bet, according to your example, and lets say you win again.. another 5750 won.. then one more time, another 5750.. sum that up and it's 17250 in total winnings, and 15000 in possible losses because that's what you would have lost if you lost all three separate bets..

now if you in the other hand bet 5000 with 10:1 odds, you will have won 45000 if you win, and 5000 in possible losses if you lost..

Let me try to put this in math you understand, and to make it easy we'll bet 1 E$

If the odds are 10x and I want to put my 1 E$ at risk.

1 x 10 = 10 E$

Now lets see if I go through three games yet still want to put my entire 1 E$ at risk.

1 x 2.15 = 2.15 E$

Thus I have 2.15 E$ now, betting it all and I put my entire initial 1 E$ at risk, if I bet any less I go in with a less risk. So I go in another game with 2.15 odds and thus risk losing my initial 1 E$ investment.

2.15 x 2.15 = 4,6225 E$

So I repeat this for the last game

4,6225 x 2.15 ~ 10 E$

The chance of this happening is 2.15^3 ~ 10 and the chance of the 10 game happening is 10^1 = 10. And what you could have lost in both examples was your initial investment of 1E$. So yes, the chance is the same and the reward is the same.

but if you would get back to the real matter at hand for a minute you'd realize that your calculation doesn't work in the end since there's a limit of how much you can bet.. the maximum allowed value is 5000, and being this late into the 'betting season', everyone always bets 5000 on the guy he think is going to win.. if anyone bets less, it just means he didn't have 5000 to bet..

you put the bet as low as 1$ out of a necessity because it collapses when dealing with high values within this betting system.. i welcome you to try your equation starting with 5000 E$ instead..

most of these upcoming games are pretty unpredictable, even making separate fixtures for each game would be a 50/50 guessing game.. when putting all of these players in one big fixture you're making one player 20:1, and another 3:1.. when they in fact would both be at 2:1 if they were to face each other in a separate fixture..

I can understand that backing up arguments with facts is something foreign for you. It didn't take me longer to count them than for you to write all those smilies however :)

One suggestion that you have not brought up but I think is worth considering is to automatically have the bet limit lowered if there are more than four alternatives to bet on, perhaps lowering it with 10% for each additional alternative up to a minimal of 2000 E$. It would however take away parts of the excitement and fun out of betting. Also, it should be much more rewarding to guess the right winner of an event than guessing who would win a single game.

I'm not a super maths genius here but I'm pretty sure you're just working out the odds and not the values. 3 separate bets with the same stake at x2.15 are never going to add up to the same as 1 bet at x10 even if the odds are (almost) the same.

Maybe that's not what you're arguing but that's what it looks like. I think the confusing part is that your first example was 5000 and that's the upper limit so it's impossible to bet all your winnings from the first bet on the second (and then all those winnings on the third)

Of course, if you are betting at the upper limit the example itself does not work but the numbers are just as valid, the only thing it changes is making both the risk and the reward lesser. The risk to reward ratio stays the same, however.

maybe you should do your calculations within the parameters of the current system instead..

Which I do not agree with. Check any betting site in the world and you'll for example see fixtures of "Who will win World Cup 2010". You seem to dislike those kind of bets which is noted but they are a big part of betting and I've never heard anyone complain about it before (not even you when you werent #1).

Anyway, I think this was a nice initiative, much more fun than the poll. But you should probably have set lower odds or made some sort of restriction since it pretty much ruins the betting leader board :)
