For me rapha plays so calm, like he was playing at 80%, all the time knowing what to do with cypher. Taking some kills at the start and then slowing the game like in ztn. Just in dm6 rapha makes many mistakes. Anyway it's awesome how rapha times all items, especialy in t9. For me cypher is a very solid player and very hard to win, but rapha is from another planet!

I'm not sure about the beating with ease bit, but i do agree that what appears to be the "Russian style" of play to be by far the nicest to spec.

I think cypher's combat skills are definitely the best and most consistent tournament to tournament. However rapha is better at adaptive play, he just always seems to know exactly what style to use against his opponent to pull the win.

ok, so I assumed everyone had the additional information.

Before quakecon QL servers were available all over the US so rapha could train it.
However, QL servers were not available near cypher, so he either had to play with very high pings or not at all.

Therefore his only chance to prepare with low pings was playing q3.
But q3 and ql are not completely the same. Thus, the preparation will be worse than rapha's.

This time around servers were avalbable somewhat closer to cypher, so he now had the chance to practice ql with lower pings. Therefore, a different result was possible.

I was really impressed that he has been playing with such a ping. Now, when the russian servers are already up, he will have a chance for the good preparation in the future...I hope :)

There's a difference in mouse control styles, though, which I think is deceiving. Cypher looks like his aim is 10x better than Rapha's, but I would say they are about even with Cypher probably better rockets and rail and Rapha probably better LG. In general, I think Rapha puts himself in better positioning to hit easier shots.

I love watching Cypher. Great style, amazing shots. But I think Rapha is probably just more professional and dedicated to wins and not style. He doesn't do any stupid shots and therefore he never has any lucky shots. But what he is, instead, is a winner who will force great players like cypher, noctis, and others to play smarter and less with their dick's out running around trying to shoot miracle shots always.

Interesting....I didn't realize until I watched this demo that they had shortened the match times to only 10 minutes in tournaments. That is not enough time to determine the best player, IMO. I always felt 15 minutes was kind of short as well.

Of course, I'm old school from the days of 20 minute duels. I felt it just challenged your concentration more, and also gives an opposing player ample time to mount a comeback if he is given a raw deal in regard to starting position. 20 minutes also allows a player to have time to adjust to the other player's play style allowing for more dynamic game play. You are barely getting to know your opponent and his style of play with a 10 minute match, leaving little room for adjustments mid-game.

With a 10 minute match, it seems to me, that a favorable spawn and an early lead goes a long way. If the match was 20 minutes, it is much harder to protect an early lead as you have to be more consistent over a longer period of time.

For example: watch the ZTN game and think about what happens if there was another 10 minutes added onto the match like it would have been in the original quake tournaments. Rapha may have still won, but there was a chance Cypher may have made a charge and stole the game being it was only a 2 frag difference.

Of course, we'll never know because the game was only 10 minutes.
