i am still wondering how people can even play with mouse accel. tried it the other day again and was totally confused even with very low settings (sensitivity 1.4 and accel 0.1)

Secondly, you can't expect to just give it a brief go and for it to feel good, it's a totally different mouse setup and you have to take the time to get used to the new technique required to use it.

Once you've got the technique down you'll find it's quite rewarding.

Because imo, cl_mouseaccel works better with a Microsoft mouse.

With Logitech drivers this is so strange.

the lower your normal sensitivity, the more pronounced your accel is going to be, because you HAVE to have fast movements to get anywhere

You'll feel more accel on 1.4 sens .25 accel than you would on 4 sens .5 accel.

What's the point of using a low res like 640x480 on a LCD screen?

I get the impression that some of these top players don't tweak their config much, though there are some really weird binds here and there.

Slow computer at home, same settings at tourney for consistency.

Sure, but wouldn't it be unwise to use a res that doesn't correspond to the native res of the LCD?

afaik it messes with your sense, so they would at least have to change that as well.

So I guess many consider playing with a non-native resolution as the lesser of two evils.

Not sure about this but I heard 800x600 on a 1600x1200 LCD is just as good as native res. Same with 640x480 on a 1280x960 LCD.

I don't think image interpolation would with the examples I listed. Pixel mapping would just be four-to-one instead of one-to-one ( 2 time more horizontal pixels and two times more vertical pixels on 1600x1200 than on 800x600). I may be wrong though.

Looks like czm really was one of a kind as a Quake pro playing with his high sens and still amazing hitscan

He was medium sensitivity and there are lots and have been lots of great aimers with all sorts of settings...

A minimal amount of people use extremes of 30cm+ but I think you'll find most people will describe themselves as low sens and have between 20-30.

If literally everyone was now using 30+ sensitivities you may have a point but it's only a slight skewing towards the lower values than in 2003 and it just makes more sense to keep the scale the same rather than change it every five minutes because people change their setups.

Otherwise you have no scale at all and people just throwing out high/medium/low willy nilly based upon their personal perception. The scale I gave was widely considered as "correct" for years and I see no reason to change it.

It only seems high because now "everyone" has switched to Low-Extreme Low sensitivity values 20-30+cm.

Zero4 is the first that comes to mind, he had insane lg as he was in top shape.

And the spread is way better with extreme low, because that's what it is. To call 20cm med is already questionable but 30cm, that's definitely low.

Makaveli used very high sens and I think he won some stuff. Thresh the legend played with ultra high sens.

Nowadays aiming got much more important and sophisticated, optical mice with high precision and wide gaming mats support a low sensitivity style and pixel accuracy that was not possible with ball mice.
Also most quake players now tend to go accel plus lowish sens instead of high sens to maintain maneuverability, so you won't see many playing with high sensitivity anymore. It is a bit outdated to play on ultra high sensitivity, still there are people who prefer that and play amazing, matter of preference.

Why do cooller and cypher still use m_filter 1? Every time I try it I feel like gimping my hitscan artificially. Even if I don't change my sens the crosshair seems to "break out" more often with filter 1 than filter 0.
