There have been some problems with that apparently - no idea why, just used the newest x264 build.

almost every game we have all played has shined in some way, because regardless of whether it becomes the big esport game or not there is always players and a community behind that, that doesn't give a fuck about esport but just enjoy playing! and before you know it you've been gaming years reminiscing like most of us in this thread now.

always when something about doctors comes up i turn into the biggest wombat fanboy, to me he is one of the biggest gamers in history, and he gets so little credit...most people have forgotten that he also won one of the very first Q3 duel lan competitions (i think it even was the very first cpl). i don't know how many different games he has played on a high level, but the list is LONG.

Ye, works for most, doesn't work for some :( No idea what is causing this. The xvid version seems to work for everyone although it has slightly worse quality.

RTCW was fun, but then came freakin W:ET which was bloody mess. Yeah, it was free. That's only good thing that can be said about it.

back when W:ET came out, it really was a mess, gameplay (xp-system in matches *shivers*) and technology.
But that is understandable cause it was an unfinished product.

Vastly inferior to rtcw, yet some players made the switch, for various reasons, and new players didn't start with rtcw because it was much easier to "own" on the ET pubs.

That was the last nail in the coffin for the rtcw - community, which died maybe 1 or 2 years later and many players (for examply my entire team and many other players I knew) stopped playing without ever making the switch, except for a few random pub games and pickups.

when et was released back then me and my whole team switched as well. i always thought that et was a crap game compared to rtcw. and i mean CRAP. no clue what it's like today but it's probably still inferior. but when the wolfenstein beta was leaked and we tryed it for a couple of matches i knew what real crap is. in the beginning of et there was plenty of fun with so many old teams coming back (for some time :P) like spk or mtw. and thus my view on et when it was released has quite changed. in comparison et main was pure gold ;D

I think "community was nicer" was due to low (compared to now) spread of Internet back in the days. Now as you know every kid has connection and amount of retards is, well, high. In 2002 ratio was much smaller, resulting nicer community's.

My roommate back then had the theory that it had to do with the "friendly" sounding voice chats, that just game a nicer atmosphere.

i don't give a shit about his in game knowledge, he was just the best caster. he actually sounded like a radio professional.
fatal1ty has plenty of in game knowledge but i would never want to listen to him cast for example.

i'll admit i haven't heard much of his rtcw but his painkiller casting was pretty painful.

warwitch was at his best casting Tribes (TsN originated there).. dude has a voice for radio. did a good job in cod1 as well.

ps. wombat dr's isn't the same as the one from Tribes.

from what I remember he didn't have the deepest insight on rtcw either or at least didn't convey it in his casts.

But what he was awesome at was setting an atmosphere. People often complain about casters getting overly excited over everyday stuff. Well, in Warwitch's case it was that for some reasons the viewers became overly excited about those frags.
Kinda hard to explain why, but I think you get what I mean.
Additionally, from the casting style rtcw 6on6 is very different from painkiller duel, cause you simply have those 4kill panzerfausts and airstrikes with huge explosions etc.

Now teaming Warwitch up with someone who can and will explain the deeper dynamics, and you might just have one of the best casting teams.


P.s. come to think of it, it seems people who heard him in painkiller almost always didn't like him, while the majority of people who know him from rtcw loved him.

It wasn't just the ingame knowledge, he truely knew how to pump up the viewers and fans of RTCW.

It already started out with the begin of his show, Edited BBC Radiobroadcasts with RTCW sizzle in. Just awesome.

Also In-game he had a billion of small sounders and jingles that truely gave that extra excitement.

WarWitch was a great entertainer and shoutcaster. Not the most indept but who cares. Het was mad fun.

Yea, I have to agree he was fantastic. He was an all round entertainer. It's a shame all those TsN shoutcasts aren't accessible any more, I'd like to hear them again.

He was great at building up an atmosphere, I remember those old WW2 radio adverts and all those quirky sounds he used to use.

It was very professional. It wasn't some guy with a monotone voice rambling on for 20 minutes which was the only sort of casting that was available back then.

well, this might be true for other games than rtcw. he said himself that he loved rtcw and he had enough knowledge. if you ask me, warwitch and a caster with profound game knowledge should join together. perfect combination of entertainment and serious business.

Average level of aim these days is so high, the oldschool players that stopped playing years ago probably wouldn't be able to come back.

that may be true for those that stopped gaming completely, but for most of them it's not.

The reason they were on top back then was more because of having played other games but also because of raw talent. Sure, the aim seen in the vid "sucks" compared to what we see today.
But it also sucks very much to what we say from many of those players in 2003 and 2004 when they really had experience in the game. (Watch the infensus movie or the gmpo movies for example).
You also have to keep in mind that due to higher spread in rtcw aiming when not crouched was more difficult than it is in et.

Bulletspread was the only thing I did not like in RtCW.

I actually liked it, because then doing salvoes was actually an option.

As for aim back then: Watch a demo of Sod, even in qw if you want.
I don't think I have to give examples for aim of say czm or wombat...

As I said, it looks worse in the movie due to less experience, but also other factors (low fps pcs, worse mouses + pads, etc). Compared to most of the others who played back then these guys were miles ahead due to talent.
By 2003 or 2004 even I as a mediocre at best player could and have done do all of those frags and probably better. But guess what, whenever I did meet one of the oldschoolers on a server they were still miles ahead of me.

e.g. check the lineup of emaho winner of the last rtcw Eurocup in late 2004, http://clanbase.ggl.com/news_league.php?lid=1705, anyone look familiar?
And yeah they had mostly been inactie for some time.

There's been eurocups after that.

Also, lots of good mice were allready available in 2002, mice people still use today.

As for aim right now, compared to aim back then:
Watch a demo of azatej, even in any game out there if you want.
Hell, watch a demo of:

Butchji,
Perfo,
NuggaN,
Syntic,
Mystic,
And mAus again.

Yes, that's in ET, but pretty much all of those played RtCW as well.

I already said in another post that I did play RtCW since it came out, but lost internet connection througout 2003-2004, and wasn't really aware of a competitive scene.

Man, sorry, but you are unaware of RTCW scene. The only guy that played RTCW from your list is mystic. And people had crazy aim at those times, not exactly in 2002 though (I would consider it too early).
Mentioning people like Nuggan, Syntic is a little too ignorant and subjective. :) Don't take it as offense, but I lol'd when I read the latter. The only people that really have/had aim from your list is maus, butchji and mystic.

Yes obviously the oldschoolplayers will have hard time beacuse they don't play anymore.
If you play fps game for all these years I really hope you know that aim isn't all. And to get better aim you "need to know your enemy". You need to know when to use right weapon etc, okey theres not much weapon in rtcw but even if you hit like 50% shaft in quake3 all the time you will not be able to dominate a topplayer beacuse he will always come against you when he have a better position and the right weapon, thats why he will get better % then you and he will be the better aimer.

As for rtcw back in these days, many q3 players tried rtcw but failed even with infensus we had some of the top quakelive players playing with us but they couldn't adapt there aim or skill into that game.

Its very hard to switch game beacuse you really have to adept. Thats why ppl on the highest level in rtcw never really liked ET. And com'on, now I will maybe start a new "flame" but the top teams in the start of ET was teams that never made it to the absolutly top in Rtcw. They switched early to ET and gut the advantage. Why I never liked ET was beacuse it was to much spam for me in the start (I know its not that spammy now days) and the maps was so big that it made the gameplay so much slower then rtcw. And yes the aim between rtcw and et is totally diffrent and if you played a game 4-5 hours day and learned one way to aim its kindoff hard to adapt so fast into a new game.

But back to what you said about aim. I dont think theres anything diffrent between back then and now days. But yes maybe the players that plays ET now have a higher "lowest skill" beacuse they played the game from when it came out and theres not that much noobs left in it.

And If a oldschoolplayer from lets say rtcw came back to to ET i dont think the aim would be the problem it would be all the small things like "heres a good spot, if a through a nade here I can shoot here, and then etc etc etc", that would be the "problem" to learn.

So a simple line for you that would have made this post much smaller:

Aim isn't all, its how you play the game and now your enemy thats important, beacuse when you know that you will be able to handel your aim in an advantage of your enemy and become the best aimer!

I know aim isn't all...

i didnt get out anything special, usually et movies are great entertaiment, just to watch how good people aim, do lucky objective runs and stuff, but in this particular movie guys aim like mid level newbies and not much good objective runs or anything else great happening either :D

only "moviejumps" you can see by him are at th end of "deep sea fishing", which are note that awesome, especially by today's standards.

The pointwas more that he had the consistency and balls to do them in matches (tbh. can't remember if he did it more than once :P). The only other player I can recall of who did that was fette and much later and not at the biggest rtcw tourney.

but if you want a comparable tricking movie from way back, I'd say you should look at the apical videos.

Wow ive only played ET competitive. At the highest level got 2nd place at qcon. But i have to say nothing will ever compare to rtcw. Hands down the best game ever made. Wish it was still alive
