E.g I was at mid on dm6, the opposing fucker sg's me from the rl, I go from 118 to 47 lmao.

Imo it's too strong in duel, too... it's way stronger than it was in q3 (due to the fixed spread).
Obvously it isn't completely unbalanced in duel, but imo the shotgun is being used much more than it should be.
The shotgun is supposed to be a low-tiered weapon, similar to mg and gl.
Currently it's a mid-high tiered weapon, depending on situation.
The amount of damage the sg does is way too much compared to the skill needed to use it properly..

I like how more weapons are useful in different situations.

Rail - Long range
LG - Mid range
RL - Close range / utility
SG - Melee range

I'd much rather have SG the best weapon in melee than to just gimp it so we're stuck with 3 good weapons. Some may argue that SG is without skill but catching someone in melee does in my opinion require more skill in a duel than putting your crosshair on a guy and press mouse1 whenever an opponent is visible (a.k.a. RG).

However, I do not mind it if the spread is increased so it's less viable at mid to long range.

ps. You aim the SG the same as an RG you just get free hits when you miss.

As I said, the difficult part of using it in duels isn't the aiming, it's the skill it takes to get into melee range.

PG works equally well from that perspective.

If you're positioned right and are in "mele" range then you can easily do a similar amount of damage to an SG albeit requiring more skill.

SG is the new LG, it is a bit ridiculous

Even more, you can manage to get 70+ accuracy (2 times higher then LG) with "brand new" SG even on HPB connection O_O In close quarters it's basically a "one shot-can't miss-one kill" weapon.

The SG stats are not per pellet : they're broken like in baseq3 SP, hence the high percentages. They don't show how much you hit every time you pull the trigger, just whether anything hit at all.
Agreed with the rest though, there's often no need to bother with any other weapon below mid-range.

I intentionally switched to SG instead of LG because of this many times; even though I get a stable 35% shaft on 100 ping <_< while having 25% with 10 ping in CPMA. Plus it's much easier to land 1-2 SG shots on the target.

Oh, the stats and hit detection for the LG are pretty much spot on. Thorin's pointing out how weakened it is now due to the ranged damage : 7 up close, 6 mid range, 5 long range - used to be 8 damage points per cell all the way.
Wanna hurt him more ? Get closer. You were always at a greater risk by getting closer to a SG-wielding opponent while shooting LG. Except the lower LG damage + distance falloff and "increased" SG damage in QL makes this even more dangerous than before.

I actually though about it: 5 damage per shot is getting pretty close to MG in terms of DPS isn't it?
And what's the point of that "accuracy panel" if the stats are broken :E

Well, IIRC, the MG does 7 per hit in all modes except TDM/CTF (maybe CA? haven't checked) where it is 5.
However the LG has a higher rate of fire than the MG, so it still has a higher damage output.

and lg is now a gun where you can be vs. a newly spawned afk locked 100% on him and it just fires and fires and fires and fires before he dies. not to mention it 'rewards' being closer to the enemy which in reality just translates to purposely getting yourself assfucked by every sg on the map.

from the 1st day i played quake i thought sg is the same as rg. to get the best result, you have to be completely upon ur enemy with the crosshair....simple as that

the tiered system is wrong. q3 is good because the weapons are SITUATIONAL. sg should be powerful only at close range and that's the problem.

The problem atm is that the bullets in the "inner circle" do more damage than those on the outer circle. This makes it noticably more useful in mid/long range situations.

The problems are:
- Too easy to hit
- Too much damage (including what you said)
- Too fast reload

so what about leaving sg as it is for close range and scale the dmg maybe until 60-70 for long range?

? x ? +? x ? = 110 damage, pellets of inner rings do more damage than pellets of outer rings


I think that Anonymous means that he wants the SG to be like in the update from 1.Oct.
That SG was really well balanced in my oppinion.
