Ok, I played Quake Live since open beta came, and I realy enjoy it. So naw, I was
wondering, what headphones, mouse, and mouse pad is best for QL? and if I don't
even use a mouse pad, is that realy bad? same with headphones? Help this
patchetic noob =]. (sry for my bad english)
There are alot of good Mices, mousepad and so on. I think it is just all about getting used to something, as long as its not really bad things which it shouldnt be.
Play without a mousepad sounsd bad, you need a mousepad to get the smooth and exact mouse movements.
My friend reccomended WHEEL MOUSE OPTICAL 1.1A but the problem is its my brothers pc, and
He likes his fancy laser mouse, logitech rx1500, is that bad? and should I look for diffrent mouse
pads for diffrent fov? My fov is 110. And should I get more slippery mouse pad or not? or it doesen't
even matter? Thanks for Your help.
a good headphones for quake is necessary, good mouse in my opinion ... Microsoft IE3.0 and a nice mousepad for this mouse ... no doubts ... Steelpad qck+ :)
there are so many setups that work for a top tier players in different fps games, it should tell you that you can do fine with whatever, not total crap, mouse/headphone/pad you get used to.
I have the Sennheiser PC151s that I use for when I actually need a mic and have had good luck with them.
Your brother's RX1500 is indeed a crappy mouse as it will not take much AT ALL to make it skip. You can have two different mice plugged into a PC and if he really doesn't want it there, you can always just unplug it when you're done. For gaming on a budget, I'd recommend the WMO 1.1, the IE 3.0, the Salmosa, the Deathadder, or the MX518. All are good solid choices of varying shapes and sizes. I'd just find one that fits you comfortably.
As far as mousepad goes I would probably stick with something cloth especially for on a budget. I personally like the Allsop Raindrop XL. QcK+ or similar have been tried and true as well. Cloth generally offers a more consistent aim for the user regardless of how slick the material is because of that little bit of inherent friction. Either way I'd go with a decent size so you don't run out of room or if you decide to start lowering your sensitivity.
Thanks for your advise, I'm thinking of buying WMO 1.1 didn't made my dissision with headphones,
and a qck mouse pad. Oh and I oltmost forgot, how abaut exel? as I said I played since open beta
came, so maybe I should start using it now? Or it doesen't realy matter? Thanks.
no, you can either play widescreen (will stretch your crosshair) or play in 4:3 mode and have black borders. your decision but it won't make much difference anyway.
if by "exel" you meant cl_mouseaccel... if you haven't been using accel until now there's little reason to start unless you're super uncomfortable with your current setup.
[edit] another option for phones: akg dj 518. same price as the sennheiser with better sound quality but no mic. any sennheiser/akg/beyerdynamic around 50-60€ upwards will be fine.
there's the qck+ (flat) and the qck heavy (normal height) for the same price. again your decision.
mouse: 15-35€
ms wmo 1.1a
ms ime 3.0
logitech mx518
logitech g1
razer salmosa
pad: 10-25€
allsop raindrop xl
steelseries qck heavy
phones: 50-60€
sennheiser pc 151
akg 518
...worst case scenario ends up being around 120 euro without a keyboard. proper keyboards are in the 60-150€ range but if you're short on cash i'd go with a cheap cherry. they're around 15-20€.
depends on what you define as 'good'. most keyboards out there suffer from the limitations of the usb protocol and insanely stupid design issues.
good keyboards support unlimited keypresses at one time, have no fixed key sequences when several keys are pressed at one time, use mechanical key switches and are rather expensive :)
the cheapest i found that supports all this is the ps/2 version of the cherry g80-3000 which costs around 60€ (Cherry G80-3000LSCDE-2 for german layout).
Why in the world would you recommend a Copperhead to anyone? Only people who use high sensitivities will be able to use that and for the money you can get a different mouse with better performance that has all those bells and whistles.
for me there was because i couldn't get used to the 'hardness' of the qck+. i guess it depends on your playingstyle and some people apparently love the flatness.
I've tried other "gaming mice" but this one is by far the best imo.
I second Sennheiser for headphones and I have no idea what type of mouse pad mine is (it's the hard plastic kind with a little resistance). I got it in Spain so idk.

Well, as it was said there are countless working combinations, mainly cause people are able to get accustomed to almost everything. An Icemat, IE, and Siberia, are good examples of that. Changing your habits in order to use theoreticaly best combination may not get you any improvements, so what you need to take into consideration when buying equipment is the way you move your mouse, sensitivity, and some ingame preferences. Some mouses will simply force you to play one way or another.
According to my theory a wrist and fingers operating, joined with medium to high sensitivity and hard coarse pad should have an edge. This doesnt mean a player using such will be superior, but in ideal situation with 2 identical perfect players it should play a role.
The only thing I can prescribe right now are cheap Sennheiser HD 457 headphones. As long as you dont require a closed ones, you cant go wrong with them.
:\ that's kinda expansive, How much would qck cloth flat, and WMO 1.1 would cost? And are WMO 1.1 are easy to get these days? they're kinda old. Thanks
Ive change my <3 mx510 (1000hz) to deathadder recently and i must say this mouse is incredible. At first i didnt like the shape that much. im a claw-gripper so it feelt to me very slippery but after some time i started to get used to it and now i think there is no better mouse than this. I dont know why but it gaves me that weird feeling when im using it especially when im circle jumping- i think the best word to describe it is dynamic. This mouse is hella dynamic. Every little move of your hand is registered without delay. Im using it at full speed 3500dpi/1000hz combined with largest goliathus speed mat. My system is old ass athlon 64 3000+ but i didnt notice any performance issues. It handles 1000hz polling with no problems while on 510 i used to got some random freezes in game.
