They arent obligated to exclude cup if someone else runs similiar one. Especialy since they run this series for years, so even if Quake has different traditions, they are probably most legitimate to do this.

The ironic part of this post is that the CB cup should have more support, not because i dislike Legie and his QQC.. i think that's great and he does a really nice job.. but because to win a clanbase ec/nc a few years ago was a nice thing.. and it still to this day looks nicer as an e-hero award.

But to be quite frank, as uk tdm captain i cba to sort 2 cups, they can find a new captain or choose not to play in CB. So i'm going to agree with you this time.

All the prestige CB once had in quake is already long gone and legie/ejo are doing a far superior job with these cups imho, also they are not hindered by a overblown webpage where ppl don't find anything anymore.

edit: after discussing it some we might have both TDM and a CTF team, but to ensure quality over quantity I'd say it still would be better to have QQC run the TDM tourney and CB run the CTF tourney.. but if we have 2 cups, I dont care, I'm a quakenerd and get to play more games :)

But at least the overblown page will stay online forever? while the QQC page can go offline and all history is lost once they stop paying for hosting or move to another game.

I never had a problem with it but there are tons of ppl that do. Mostly ppl that aren't very fluent in english and who don't understand the whole system and match procedure on the site.

Back when I was in CB, I went through _all_ the old EC/NC to fix the news on the first pages (new UBB code, yeepee!). You wouldn't believe the amount of stuff which were lost : ]

I don't think they weren't lost, directories changed. For example, image server changed like 5 times ever since GGL took over.

Yeah I know about that, I talked some times with syn when he was in charge of the server move. Afaik, he told me these stuff weren't on the servers anywhere.

I can't remember when was the last time i was looking at those pages, but i do remember they were there at least after the first major server move.

Well, there can't be a Quake only page, CB supported other games for 10 years now already.

I dont know. After years with their page it seems quite simple. Rules, roster, pending, thats all what is needed during cups, and it can be reached with either one or two mouse clicks. Problems starts when you want to do some account admining or team editing, but thats it and as far as Nations Cups are concerned there are National Managers to deal with that (for Poland it is ognos, QL TDM leader in FF X-Fi, so rather reliable person). This is however nothing compared to ESL page which even today is still beyond human comprehension.

CB & ESL are equally poor in my opinion.

Last Nations Cup at Quake3 organized by ClanBase was at Fall 2006. From this time only Legie and other guys from CZ were interested in that and keeping community alive. I think we should stick with it loyalty and ignore QL TDM Nations Cup by CB. CTF NC is different case and its something that is needed so no complain about that NC.

Other way is that CB can employ those guys to make those Cups merged and save player base.

TDM didn't have a NC because of lack of Supervisors i think. It was always difficult to get people to run Q3 cups.. hence why the only Q3 cup alive on CB is NoGhost instagib.

Employ is a big word. All cup supervisors are volunteers. Would that guys who run other cup want to become supervisors and take over the cup, I bet they would be more than welcomed.

They never do first step. Cup supervisors are recruted in two ways, they either read notice and send aplication or sometimes previous cup supervisor or game supervisor aproach person he think is appropriate and invites him for interview. If Q3 was canceled this means there either werent any people who wanted to become cup supervisors or some higher supervisors (game or chief of nations cups) decided there wasnt enough interest from community side (which usualy is due to lack candidates for cup supervisors).

Sometimes there are special situations like year ago when UT TDM cup supervisors who ran it for some time, decided they wont run it as official anymore, and create separate one as Hosted Cup so they could go around typical Nations Cup rules. The most important was players per clan limitation which would allow some nations to wield whole clans as their teams and give them advantage. Better, they didnt consult community nor teams, so as a captain of reigning champions I declined participation in it (as did Finland, the runner ups, but I dont exactly know their reasons). Most of issues are actualy created by volunteers and not by regular staff, but you could say that it is staffs job to keep them in check.

It used to be different before 2003, people actually wanted to referee and supervise cups, but i guess players just got used to having someone else step in and do the work of an organizer.

I guess if he would only wrote a statement that CB is not going to run Q3 TDM NC because of lack super visors, someone would decide to help(of course it is only supposition). As i remember correctly, there wasnt such a statement, there wasnt even single explanation "why". Everyone was so dissapointed when they show us a list. We all know that was a time most of people (including CB staff) though that q3 is dead and supporting it is stupid. Blaming community right now isnt very nice idea.

I made several statements on ESR (annoucement news items and forums) about having to cancel cups if we weren't able to get admins and NO ONE CARED until they were actually canceled. Saharak didn't have the patience as i did, he rather focused on quality instead of quantity.

Of course when it was already too late people came out with lines like: "if i knew there wouldn't be a cup without an admin i would have applied."

No UT TDM for the second year in row? Last year due to lack of UT TDM our UT team had to go for UT3 TDM, and got silver. Since UT3 teams consisted mostly of UT 2004 players, the level of competition wasnt too high.

Why dont they just change the mod from TDM to CA?

not really, we had a poll running here earlier thanks to perpetualwar and TDM+CTF came clearly on top.
We plan on having a fixed weekday to have the matches played, to smoothen the broadcasting schedule and give captains less work on having to schedule the matches.

I think it's more about who announced it first and sadly, CB cups have to stick to the general scheduled season... well the official ones at least.. hosted (gs.net for example) and featured cups can be done anytime.
