i never understood why they made the tdm spawnsystem to spawn you away from your teammates ... (so more likely closer to opponents)

the tdm spawnsystem was changed in one of the recent updates. it is no longer away-from-team but now (afaik) either away-from-enemy or near-team. no idea when the match in question happened though. nvc?

Yeah, they did change the spawn system but you still get these situations fairly often...

the problem in this case isn't the way ql decides where someone respawns (away from or near someone etc.) but the fact that the two rl spawns and the ssg one on dm14 are probably considered to be 'far away' enough for something like this to happen.
if it is away-from-killer or something similar ql 'thinks' rl <-> ssg is fine. different issue than before but i can live with that .) afaik it was the same in q3.

* Changed Team Deathmatch spawn system to put you further away from your enemies.

Q3 was spawn furthest out of X spawns from dead body (Same as duel).

The current system gives you some fucked up runs of spawns (on other maps too), it's an improvement on the previous system they were using though.

afaik ql is spawn furthest away from killer in tdm/duel and away from team in ctf [random out of x number of possible spawns fitting that description].

what i don't understand is why id changed/added spawnpoints on some maps like dm6 but seemingly missed the underlying implications of what they're doing: spawnpoints are important in how they work out in relation to each other not only how good or bad one single respawn is in terms of nearby items. they could've fixed the dm14 ra situation by slightly tweaking the ssg spawn alone...

id should've put some thought in it when they started messing around with respawns. dm6 could've become a much better map if only someone with proper quake experiences thought the spawn situations through. :/

dm14 spawns could be much fairer in just about every area on the map. In fact it's probably the worst map for spawn points you could imagine.

Examples:
Instead of having two either side of the RL they could be placed where one must make a choice between RL and RA (Which would be nearer escape routes too).

RG vs RG bouncepad:
Two spawns right next to each other, one gets health and an RG and a safe route out, the other gets trapped between two risky routes and no items.

BS, GL and lower LG spawn are all painful to get, especially at the start of a game.

"SG" spawn or the Shards spawn, the ones in Jesus room!

In fact, I dislike having lots of spawn points inside "areas", I'd much rather they were in "paths".

true but on the other hand the map provided us with the most interesting map location nick names yet:
jesus (lower rl) & maria (upper rl) ftw :)(

Now isn't the removal of Jesus from Jesus room symbolic...

I don't know why, maybe its just luck, but at the start of the game in ztn I 70% get the lg spawn.
