It could be a simple math issue.

Give us what sensitivity you were using, and what DPI. If you were using the 3.0, tell us how old it was. The 3.0's now are 450DPI, not 400, so something like that could be screwing you up.

Alright, so here's your new sense. I'll write the math here so you understand.

450 / 400 = 1.125

5 / 1.125 = 4.4

Which means your new sensitivity is 4.4. Set the DA to 450dpi, 500hz, and everything else default. Go in game and put the sens to 4.4. Tell me the results =)

in other words... that was far too complicated for his case. still 4.444 is a little closer to the truth and you shouldn't be rounding numbers that quickly if it comes to important shit like quake sens :p

The new 3.0s are still 400DPI.

No, they are NOT. I have a brand new 3.0, it had a gotfrag logo and review on the front of the box. It's 450dpi. I know this because when I did the math from going from my salmosa to the 3.0, if I did the math for 400dpi, the sensitivity wasn't right, but when I did the math for 450dpi, it was perfect.

I bought one of the new 3.0s fairly recently, it's 400dpi unquestionably (Mirrors my WMO which is old).

1.) Typed in "microsoft intellimouse explorer 3.0" in google and clicked search
2.) Clicked on the first result
3.) Clicked on "Download" under "Product Documentation" on the right.

A video isn't proof, all it would prove is that you have a faulty 3.0 and that pdf is the technical data sheet for the new one (9,000 FPS).

The fuck is your problem? If my 3.0 is 450DPI, and I can prove it, then it's fucking 450dpi. Stop with this trolling bullshit. If I put a Deathadder right beside my 3.0, set it to 450dpi, and if both mice do a 360 in the same distance, then the 3.0 is 450dpi. Don't tell me I have a faulty mouse. A faulty mouse would have irregular behaviour, it wouldn't just overclock its self to 450dpi.

If one IE3.0 is 450dpi that doesn't mean any others are.

The difference between 400dpi and 450dpi isn't large enough for a test like that to be fairly done (400 vs 1,600 or something is clear) unless you have an ESR mouse-score type setup for external proof.

If Microsoft say it's 400dpi I expect they know since they made the actual sensor (It's not avago or anything like that).

If you were to put Quake at a very low sensitivity, you COULD measure the difference between 450 and 400. Something along the lines of 30cm/360, or possibly more would yeild a large difference in the two DPI's.

Here's a thought. You cannot buy the 3.0 on the Microsoft site anymore. There are many rumors that they have stopped selling the 3.0 all together. I managed to get one because my old one broke (I broke it) and they replaced it for me, with a brand new one.

Now lets run this situation through your head and maybe you can understand. When a retail store has 20 stock of a mouse, it can sit on the shelf for a long time, months, even years. Lets take the 3.0's for example. If Microsoft stopped shipping that mouse to retail stores, the stores are left with what they had when they got them. If they got a shipment a long time ago, they keep that stock. So, when you go to a store and buy an 'new' 3.0, it might not be new. It might of been manufactured two years ago, maybe more.

When I say 'new', I mean newly manufactured from Microsoft. Going to a store, purchasing a 3.0, and saying you have the 'new' 3.0 is NOT correct. You have no idea how old that mouse really is.

Plug them both in and do a 360. Or draw a line in MS paint or something, you just need to make sure that you move the mouse in real life the same distance, and see any difference onscreen. Move it slowly.

The difference in DPI is 12%, so the results should reflect that.

Ok I just did the test and they both have same dpi. So its 400 because we know the old is 400.

I used ezquake, sensitivity 2, m_pitch 0 and default m_yaw with no drivers and I get 20cm/360 on both mice. I repeated this at least 5 times or more on both and get 20cm every single time.

So yeah Gillz is full of shit :D

If anyone wants I'll take pictures of both mice and the box with "9000fps" written on it if anyone doesn't believe me.

Well, I'm sure there are many possibilities as to why there are 450dpi 3.0's. That's one of them. I think it was agreed upon, sensor was changed, and documentation on the website is outdated.

Well considering Microsoft designed the IntelliEye themselves I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want other people making some random 450dpi sensor (As far as I know there aren't any, just the 1800 scale down ones).

Oh and for the last time, the documentation isn't out of date, it's for the new IE3.0 with 9,000 FPS and it says 400DPI.

Microsoft develop the sensor, they would know if they had changed the DPI and they would have changed it at the same time as the FPS.

It's possible some manufacturer pulled a fast one and switched the sensors (I can't really imagine this happening since no other mice use the IntelliEye) or that there is a batch of faulty 450dpi IE3.0s out there (Or maybe an actual problem that affects X out 100 IE3.0s).

But in that case you've got a knock-off or faulty 3.0.

Most of the people saying it's 450dpi are just parroting what they have read, though if yours really is 450dpi then it's more than possible others are 450dpi too but all evidence suggests that it's 400dpi (Direct comparison by two people of the old and new, Microsoft tech sheet).

It's not outdated, it's bang up to date:

OLD IE3.0:
- 400 DPI
- 6,000 FPS

NEW IE3.0:
- 400DPI
- 9,000 FPS

Like I mentioned before, I have no problem accepting there are 450dpi IE3.0s I would just imagine they are from a faulty batch/a batch using incorrect settings/hardware.

i went frm wmo to razer deathadder and setting it up as 450dpi 500hz and leaving the sens on default (and unglowing the accel) seemed to make it the same.. allthough i had to chang emy sens a bit

Is there any reason not to use the highest dpi/hz rates? I use 1800 dpi and 1000 hz on my DA and don't experience negative accel. I use a low sens and move my mouse quite fast. However, it seems a lot of pro's use 400 dpi.

Ok, here it is:

with in_mouse -1 quake measures the distance you moved with your mouse by checking how much the mouse pointer is moved from the center of the screen. With a high DPI it is likely that your windows mouse sensitivity is quite high.

Now if your game resolution is low, the amount of pixels your mouse pointer can move is low and thus it is possible (and more likely with a higher DPI) that your mouse cursor hits the boundary of your screen.

I have one to and i use 1800dpi @ 500hz the same as i did with my copperhead and it feels the same (pretty much with some sens fetteling)..

Im used to it now tho and im hitting similar accuracies i think.

like 20-25 cm / 360, not quite sure I haven't measured it in a while. Running the Xai at 900 CPI, no skipping or noticable accel. Dust on sensor seems to be a problem tho, I'll give u that.

every xai has accel... it's been said 100 times. the easy skipping on higher dpi started after the lastest sw upgrade.

not to mention the shape which isn't as good as the wmo (too low)

Meh. I got 30cm for 360 degree spin and it doesn't skip. It's only skipped once cause it had dust on the sensor.

are there any problems wtih negative accel or skipping? I ordered the 3500dpi version as i couldn't get hold of the old one (which I had a while back and loved)- and although the old one had a few problems initially these were fixed with new firmware.
Also i was hoping to not have to install the razer software, but do want 500hz polling. Is there a usbmouserate program for windows 7 about yet?

well i'm getting used to the da after using an ie 3.0 for a while (got fed up with the side buttons and mwheel bug)- have to say i really like it :) it just feels alot better built. was a bit lazy in working out what my new sense should be so i pretty much just picked a random one and lowered my fov a tad.
