Not really, the amount of money these people spend on advertising is crazy.

The money they spend on gaming is a drop in the ocean, that's why it makes me annoyed when I see intel putting up such little money.

These people get fined 940+ million pounds, yet they expect people to fly to dubai to win a few £1000 and be the best in the world.

There is of course an argument that its better than nothing (you know that small time mentality that only a gamer would latch onto), but there is also the very valid point that someone is really taking the piss because thye know they will get away with it.

The bottom line is the amount of money certain sponsors of esportsput in compared to home much they earn is a joke.
And a scandal when you realise how much time and effort the top players put it. You won't win a quake 3 event without at least 5 years hardcore FPS experience and don't even get me started on StreetFighter as its probably closer to a decade because your opponents have been playing since 1991. Fancy your chances?

Kind of interesting that they got Peugot for sponsorship, which I believe isn't exactly a computer hard-/software related company. More of this, and esports might finally get some more widespread attention and financing.

Making it Q3 is the most stupidest thing imaginable.
Yes, Q3 has GTV, maps and more usual to oldschool players gameplay/balance. But QL has community which is much more major factor than all the stuff Q3 has. And what you'd never want is to split that community, because basically that would eventually lead to quick loss of interest for both games (you should understand that except for a few freaks, 10 years old Q3 will not attract new playes anymore while QL exists) , and you won't get any tournaments at all.
And seriously, as far as I can say, most of the top players like QL and don't whine about how Q3 is better, and the opinion of others is unimportant in this matter. So hopefully the idea of making it Q3 won't even cross the mind of ESWC organizers. Who will listen to some "marky" when Cooller says he likes QL?

I sure do think so. I think the QL community right now is bigger then the Q3 community was at the time QL was released.

Ofcourse this is pure speculation from me as I wasn't playing Q3 at that time.
Anyways, QL is free and Q3 isn't. QL is easy to start. www.quakelive.com, login and play. So it's easy for people that get interested to start. VERY easy and that's a plus.

I didn't say anything about how much players QL attracts.
My point is, if we want Quake to grow or at least stay at the level it is now, our only chance is to support one and only one game. Community is much more important for the future than actual features of the game. And if we have a game that has a relatively strong and even (slowly) growing community, then we shouldn't want something that only 100 players play to replace it, even if it's infinitely better.
As for marky vs Cooller, I meant that even the top players, i.e. players that can feel the game better than anyone else, think that QL/Q3 difference is not a big deal. So really, don't make it sound like it's an important issue.

no, but really, QL is far from perfect, but it's still better than (v)q3 since the last update.
Better weapon balance, better hitboxes, bigger community, easy to install & play, pretty nice website.
I agree that it lacks of maps and some competition features, but still it's really playable as it is. And if you compare with others commercial online games.... It's day & night lol.

Really, what we need now is maps, and afaik, it's coming. So we have to be more patient, and as always, hope for the best...
Some gameplay adjustement wouldn't be bad either =). And maybe some new gametype like freezetag, DA etc...

And if I was looking for the "perfect competitive game", I wouldn't play vq3 or even cq3, I would play cpm. But cpm is kinda dead now, and I still like some aspects of vql gameplay.

If they can't do a QL LAN due to ID, then have Q3. Pretty simple.

Well, at least Q3 servers don't kick people out of finals or crash or need id scientists to set up for LAN.
Not to mention better ruleset for duel (ammo system, spawn system, maps, timelimit).
Oh, and the timer works in warmup mode, and - DOOH - it counts up.
But yes, at the moment QL seems like a better choice, but if one thinks about the "competitive features" of QL, Q3 is 10 times better.
So using (C)Q3 would be nice and should wake id up:D

Choosing Q3 at this point would be a travesty imo. Its just a decremental step in the wrong direction in terms of progressing the popularity of the game.

If Quake is gonna be a mainstream game again, with big prizepools, and without the year to year risk of getting removed from the games lists of big tournaments, they need to choose Quake Live.

Their opinion about QL is worth the same like any other. They are progamers, they make money by playing quake and most of them didnt complain about q4 too at time when it was a duel game of choice. This means they will adapt to any gameplay change that will eventually come without the need to comment it. (except fot noctis maybe).

I expect to see quakelive in ESWC.
But if vq3 gets chosen, well, I wont be disappointed. Gtv, no laggy pixel streams and after all, Quake 3 is still far superior to QL. And with ID's team speed of progress, its going to stay this way forever.

Put less harshly, after q4 faltering and tourney opportunities and prize money decreasing as compared to a couple of years ago, those dudes are happy about anything which is handed to them, about playable and earns them some money. That's the precise reason why you hardly hear any pro gamer criticizing QL these days. They just want to stay afloat, while praying for ID to come up with some new and hopefully more successful quake/quake style successor these next years.
