Why dm6 favorite ? Because it's the oldest and the most played competitive q3 map (I don't care about t4 and t2 etc...). Many others dm games have their own dm6 version... It's one of the best map if you like to straff-jump (just watch walter playing it, lot of wall clipping, it's awesome), and it looks good and well designed. I agree that the map isn't really balanced, but is it because of QL gameplay or because of the lack of armors etc ? I can't really say. But still, this map is kinda aim based, and I like it, we need 1 aim based map in the duel mappool. And for people saying "it's impossible to comeback", well, maybe when you're the average joe, yes it is, but look at some IEM games etc... I guess that if you focus 100% and NEVER EVER give up, you can make a comeback if you get good aim and you try 1 or 2 new moves (if it's still possible in 2010 lol...). Respect the dm6 pls.
Why t7 2nd favorite ? Because it's simply the best new map out there. Great design, complex, feels fresh & different, lot of unexploited possibilities because of the map complexity. Players often don't like it because it's so much different than many others maps and because it often doesn't suit some style of playing (and I guess that if I play this map more, it wouldn't suit mine aswell... which is a good thing, cuz I like diversity, and I like when I have new things to learn, when they are not senseless :-)). Finally a map who can't be played like any others. People just have to play it more & hard, to discover new moves & stuff. And don't say that you can't shaft @ this map, or that it's all rail based, because it's simply not true; it's just that the map is so complex with all these pillars etc, that players just use what they would use when they are lost : the rail. I guess people will realise the potential of this map in 6 months or more, if it's still in the mappool, when they will have played something like 300 games on it.
About ztn, I don't get all the fanboism about this map, maybe because cooller was godlike at it ? :-P Or maybe cuz you can't be shaft raped at this map ? Maybe cuz you can pixel rail like a cunt ? :-P But I still agree that it's 100% duel map and overall it plays nice.
t9 : most spammy map ever. Not to mention the lame teleport camp or +back. The only real interesting thing at this map is the middle area and the mh placement, the rest is kinda boring. And why do we need 2 no rail maps ? 1 is enough imo.
dm13 : most boring defensive map ever. Really tight map. I like when there's like 5 OT because we don't see that often, but it's still lame. Also, the map is old and it's far from being as "good" as dm6. For me dm13 is just a "bonus" map, when there's nothing better to play, and I liked the nodm9 version better. What we need is a real no rail map, not something 10 yo & uninteresting.

Are u sure ? Imo there's many way to escape & pixel rail at this map, just watch pros demos. Sure you can still use the shaft effectively, but it's way harder to get close enough and to chase an hiding opponent, than playing defensively with pixel rails & restack until you're sure you'll win the next fight. I'm also talking about 2007+, not about the old days (2003-2004).

AND, imo everyone should have its chance to win, or at least as much people as possible. Because QL is not as elitist as , let's say, CPM, for example. Some people are simply better with rail, others with shaft, others are more "tactical players", etc...
So, imo, you have to find the right balance to "please" everyone, or not favor 1 style in particular.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want QL to be newbie-friendly ("everyone should have its chance"), but since the "goal" of the game is to be a "kinda elitist game" that could also please the mass, then imo we need all kind of maps.

And imo it's sometimes more interesting when people can win with only 1 strong element. Sometimes it's good to have "if you don't have a top shaft, you'll lose" kind of map.

The point of an "all elements" map is that you can theoretically just rail or shaft dominate, +back or rush dominate etc.

Players should dictate how the map is played based upon each other not the map :/

Yeah, but the difference between maps like ztn or t9 is that if you don't have a top shaft @ ztn you can still win if you concentrate all your game style on timings, rail and maybe tactics. @ t9, you can't, all you could expect is to win by map lock or einstein tactics. I like when players are "forced" to play one style, when they can't particularly win only by developping their "natural talent".

The point is that one player can't dominate only with 1 style of playing.

Example : let's assume one player has insane shaft aim & very good tactics, but "average" timings & rail. With 5x "all element" maps, he can still dominate only by "renforcing" his "natural talent". Why would he bother practicing his rail if he can dominate with 50% acc shaft ? If he fights against a rail whore (65% acc rail), he will just try to get 55% shaft acc....
It's more interesting to see someone with 45%LG 55%RG & good tactics & timings than someone with nobrain & 75%RG or 55%LG... or someone with no skill but with autistic timings...

since 2007+, pixel rail etc is dominant. You have more chance to win with pixel rails & nice restack tactics/map control, than with RL/LG based tactics.

Why do we need an "aim map"?

The whole point of maps is to test the full skill sets of the players at all times, there shouldn't be an "aim map" and a "whatever you wanna call it map" there should just be maps which can cater to both styles of play.

I know T7 is a "good" map, but I personally hate it. I find myself fighting the map more than the opponent. The odd floor and leveling at RA, the mesh bridges that you can shoot through, etc. It just seems uneasy. I'm super uncomfortable on that map.

I can't put my stats because my demos are in a bunch of different folders, and other hard drives.

where are you all finding the amount of times you've played a map?

p.s.: used the windows search in my demo folder to find out how often i played a map (since the "new" naming system). dont forget to include "Name(POV)" to filter out other modes than duel

looking at duel servers, i think t9 might be the new dm6.

i prefer slower maps with the standard armour layout (mega, ra, 2 ya). t9, at the level i play at, can get very intense as it can be hard to keep control comfortably, but i think it's a fair map. dm6 is just gay, i hate the feeling of helplessness when not in control.

Australian CTF pub pretty much consists of Vortex Portal being played over and over and over. Makes me die a little inside whenever I try play.

I don't get it, vortex portals is the most frustrating map to play ever. I always hear people saying "callvote qzteam6 and the server will fill" and all people do on qzteam6 is bitch about the map.

Australian players who just pub in CTF and dont actually care for the game in terms of be played in leagues/matches are honestly convinced that team6 is the best CTF map ever. I dont know what it's like in Europe/US so far as using the map just to fill a server goes, but people here will try kick you if you:

a) Vote against a change to team6 when it's on a different map
b) Dont ready up and try vote off of team6
or
c) Refuse to leave spec when waiting for a map change whilst the map is team6

The only way you can play something other than that is by pug'ing on IRC or joining a server with enough friends to outvote the map changes/kicks; but then a lot of the time people will just leave in that case and you end up with a game of 2v2 CTF.

With 1v1s I usually only play with people I know. I have played more dm6 in the past couple of weeks, but thats mostly to improve on it because I never play it.

I also eliminate dm6 in official games, purely because I don't like to play some random god on it.

I play HUB vs bots and pretend like they are real people.
I also answer them or thrash talk to make it more realistic.
