Today is a special Valentine's Day Massacre episode of Live On Three with your hosts

Marcus "djWHEAT" Graham and

Rod "Slasher" Breslau (SirScoots at the olympics). djWHEAT, who worked for both Global Gaming (GGL, formerly the Global Gaming League) and the Championship Gaming Series (CGS), will be having a tell-all exclusive on the rise and fall of both of these large companies.

GGL - Early 'vSports' involvement at the company, buying out and collapse of ClanBase, along with the slow death of AmeriCup and EuroCup, the Hip Hop Gaming League and Professional Baseball Gaming League, the failed Digital Games Chinese Olympics event, and the owed money to both players and former employees

I really really hope people don't blow something like this out of proportion. Start-up costs for a business take the largest part of your budget.

that is entirely depending on the type of business and how you arrange your startup.

I know two companies which are now worth millions, that were started with a 25,000€ investment. And of course a lot of hours and hard work.

Exactly. We don't know what they absolutely needed to purchase, payroll, etc. We can't say that's a lot of money or not, because we have no idea about the financial planning of the CGS.

did you even read what I wrote?

For 40 million you can start 1000 companies.

The only reason you need that kind of money for a start-up is, if your type of company needs very expensive production facilities, e.g. an entire factory. The CGS clearly did not need that.

If you have a product that still needs to be developed, throwing all the money you have at it right away is completely retarded. One needs to start conservative to find out what works and what doesn't, aka developing. Introducing the same new product on two markets, America and Europe, without having really deep pockets, thus going for the "all or nothing" option right away is so incredibly stupid, it's mind-blowing.

Do you realize how much money 40 million dollars is? Even warren buffet would consider that a lot of money. they had to TRY to spend 40 million in 2 years. you could buy 100 - $400,000 houses. Or you could buy 4 chinook helicopters. or you could probably just run 5 major top-dollar payout gaming events every year for the next 5 years.

if you really think 40million wasn't that much money to blow in two years, then you sir are destined to be a politician in America.

yes, i completely agree with wheat on fighting games.. you can't really go wrong with them (especially in North America)

everything is on screen, matches don't take long and have a very clear format, anyone can figure out the action and appreciate what's going on (long combos, corner pressure, persistent turtling, blowouts, comebacks etc.)

also Street Fighter has a very big advantage because it's recognizable and iconic.. it's the only hardcore game that still has mainstream buzz

also the numbers and fanbase are already there (Evo 2009 peaked at 23k viewers for the stream, while 1024 players were in the actual SF4 tourney)
now would be the right time to invest in this type of thing with Super SF4 just around the corner.. and you can build things up around it beyond fighting games

i hope that's what the Devastation crew strives for.. can't wait for their 2010 event. i've heard they'll bring some Japanese heavy hitters over
