who else in server did you ask for password from? and what did they say?

On US servers we typically have 16 people on private servers watching out games, those games typically consist of sets traded between players, myself tehnewbz sparks chance dkt and dahang. If he said stfu private server, it's because you really shouldn't be messaging people while they are in game on a private server. You ask the spectators if there are any, if not you wait until the game is over and message them.

If they still say no, it's because they do actually want the privacy they sought out by creating a private server. You can't really hold that against them, and it doesn't mean they have an attitude. Dahang especially is a very tolerant person, so I'm willing to bet you messaged him mid game.

First i must admit i fucking like all this latest sincere, straightforward interviews. Just epic.

As for strenx goes i liked his answers. Honest, direct answers. This guy will gain respect which was unthinkable only few months ago. He just has to stop mentioning party in every sentence and stop pretending he is not practicing. I doubt anyone believes him about that.

no shit sherlock, but then there's people who are still students or dont earn much money or are jobless, and it's surely cheaper to go somewhere with a sponsorship deal/prize money and have some of your expenses covered, than not having any of this. take it to the extreme, I doubt all painkiller players would have been able to travel around the world as much in a year without their sponsorships and prize money. it's not exactly news that a well paid job allows you to travel the world, but it's stupid to deny that some deals these players get are helping as well.

if you are 18+ and dont have own money, its your problem. Most pro gamers are 20+ so if they worked normal job, they could travel more! :)) but as I said, it much depends where u live. if you live in midle china and earn 25$ in month , so its expensive.

In Germany you usually won't finish uni before 23/24, depending on what you study or did before it might take even longer. Most students tend to not have shitloads of money to piss away for traveling during that time.

I'm in this category in the US. I'm currently a full-time student with no real income and won't finish university until I'm 24. It's also likely, due to my choice in careers, that I will have to start out at a little to no pay internship until I have professional experience. Let's say that I won't be making real money until I'm 25. =(

You probably agree with me in that Strenx is off his rocker to think that the US players have no lives. DKT is married with a job, rapha has a job, Dahang goes to school full-time, and chance also works. I don't believe it true of anyone who plays quake that they ONLY focus on quake. There has never been a player in the history of the game who has that sort of luxury.

yeah ofcourse, imo the interview is pretty much full of immaturity and narrowminded views and contradictions. I'm a full-time student myself (well, slacking loads lately :p) and will finish uni soon at the age of 25. University degrees have been reformed (or should I say fucked up) in the past years, moving from regular old diploma to the bachelor/master system. I myself am doing diploma, and I know plenty of students who are in the new bachelor courses. Especially in the beginning you got shitloads of work to do (physics), even if I wanted to I couldn't work enough to have enough money for a decent life myself, let alone travel around the world regularly.

Partying vs gaming or other activities is quite a stupid discussion. It's most likely a good idea to socialise with other people regularly, and much of that happens at parties especially if you're 19. But you'll eventually get bored of it, and some people never enjoy it much in the first place. Some prefer clubs, others pubs, or maybe dinners with friends. Some drink, others don't, some do sports, others don't. As long as you don't get too disconnected from friends or environments (or let's say too fucked up), you should be fine no matter what. And even if you decide to be a complete stranger and never leave the house, well so be it? Do whatever makes you happy, it's a good idea to be aware of the consequences but at the end of the day who's got to say what your life should look like? I'd rather play games and love it than go to parties and hate it but oh well everybody goes to parties?!?! time to get out of puberty

My thoughts about practise vs no practise and strenxs view on this.
Quake is like learning how to ride a bicycle - Once you've learned it you will never forget.
Practise is merely for trying some new shit and see how it translates into your game or to boost your selfconfidence.
Strenx seems to protect himself in advance for a failure by stating that he does not practise and that he's so extremely outgoing and awesome but oh you won't fool me you insecure you.

Im pumped about the games btw ! and the fact that strenx and buzz lightyear will be sharing a sofa in the near future :D

Every tourney player does this. Pretty sure the only one to admit that it wasn't a real excuse was czm.

I don't quite agree about Quake like a bicycle, although game knowledge and general strategy is hard to unlearn.

But dropping the game for 6 months and your aim/movement goes to shit. I think the benefit DaHang gets from practicing heavily is that his aim/movement is very comfortable and it helps against uncertainty. Instead of getting nervous and uncertain about what to do in a situation, a well-practiced player won't hesitate, but will act (either for good or bad) on what they think is the best action. Also, I think there's the added benefit of when a player is extremely comfortable with all possibilities, they can play and *think* at the same time. If a player is struggling to hit shots they feel they should be hitting, they're focused more on their technique than strategies.

Practicing to find tricky strategies to use might be more a will-to-win that goes beyond just heavy practicing but a drive to understand how to do things better (working smarter, not harder). I think Cooller is famous for this, playing smarter and not "harder".

I dunno, it seems like a more responsible thing for Ljefie to do would have been NOT to publish this interview. Strenx is clearly upset when writing this and will probably regret saying it. It's a shame, too, because who knows if QL will grow in popularity and might bring more tournaments? Strenx kinda throwing it away by setting himself up for public ridicule for his comments.

That's a bit silly. The whole point of being able to be graceful in the media is to realize wtf you're saying and what's going to be published. People have accused me of making the whole thing up or that someone was pretending to be strenx during the interview (!).

The fact that he said so many times that he doesn't care shows that he knew this interview would get strong reactions. I'm not his mother and to be fair I actually think hes got big balls for just having the guts to trash talk so openly. Look at how interested all of a sudden everyone got into this tournament, if they weren't so already.

Maybe I sound like a bitch but it's not my responsibility (or place) to "direct people to say the right things so they don't regret it later" in interviews. If they want to say something, they should be able to say it and in their own words. In the av3k interview for example, the journalist was putting words in his mouth by saying "You must admit, that Cooller's sportsmanship didn't really do him good".

Do you think this is right too? What is better, to publish what somebody wants to say or to put words in their mouth and let them answer with something I want to hear? What I think is that Strenx just wanted to say his piece and I let him. I didn't even have to ask many questions, I let him cover what he wanted to talk about.

I agree, you're not his mother, but it is exploitative when someone is raged/frustrated and writes an incoherent/rambling rant even if he knew it was a public interview. He should know better than to write these comments when he's upset. I suppose at the very least he'll learn a lesson from all this.

I actually just felt sorry/embarrassed for Strenx after reading the interview. His comments don't make the championship anymore exciting, all it does is give more ammo to the trolls and flames that are going to happen against the kid.

What you're completely unaware of is the things that aren't included as there was a point where I said "I won't put that, it's too much". If I was manipulating his words, approaching him when he's obviously upset and coercing him to speak on things he didn't want to then yes I could agree it could be exploitative. But theres nothing in there that he didn't want to talk about and had no problem talking about anything.

Well, he's in a tournament for professional gamers. He's a member of Fnatic (a well-established gaming group), surrounded by other pro-gamers (whether he considers himself one or not is another issue entirely and not part of my point), and probably has a manager or the equivalent.
