If it were dead it would not be down. It's due to the increasing amount of users - QL can't handle it as of yet.

id lured all the players from q4, q3, qw, q2, cpma to ql very smartly INSTEAD of taking care about the fresh QUAKE 4 properly

quake 4 is FASTERRRRRR and much better than all the rest (excluding qw.. :edit)

but id abandoned it instead of doing something constructive

i dont care if its free cos i got no choice- all other quakes died and its id fault

i have to play slowwwww ql while id rather play q4

im not saying ql is a bad game

its ok but q4 is much much better and it comes to my head each time ql is down or they bring some new shiny effects to it instead of adding hub

I dont think the whole QL Team has to observe the update status...
Its not a big deal to make the update start by a timer and 1 person is enough to observe the progress for emergency cases.

yes, but you do realize that if they want to avoid the main times in both Europe and America they would have to start the update some time after midnight in the US. I don't think even one person would want to stay at work that late.

Look, if I want a product I don't give a fuck if five or five hundred people work on it, what I want is a good product.

I care if the people working on it are competent enough to actually be working on it, especially when it comes to software.

Anyways, my point was that it could be used as an excuse to save face.

If e.g. Mercedes comes to tell me I got a crap car cause they only had one guy working on it, it doesn't "save face" in my book ;)

7-9am gmt would cover peak times for europe, east and west coast america

3am est or new york would hit west coast america peak time

gmt goes to -5 for most of the main countries in europe, you have til 12gmt for the server deadzone to get some double pay overtime in once a week

It's a bit annoying when ql goes down for updates but hey we get some new features or w/e so it's ok imo. But I think it's completely unnecessary that the ql forums aren't accessible during updates.

Indeed, I always thought that they would be hosted on a different server that in fact is accessible when you can't get pasted the log-in screen. :D I mean, it even says so: "Click here if this page does not load for you".

I still love QL though :)
