not too sure what the standard was towards the end, but some maps I can remember that were played at WCG and other tournaments were:

also, aiming feels kinda 'floaty', don't know how to explain it. it's like, if i move the crosshair towards the right for a few inches and stop, it doesn't consistently start moving and then instantly stop. it's more like it gains speed slowly when starting to move, and then it slows down when i stop moving instead of becoming instantly stationary. any ideas?

Sounds like it could be vsync. I had a similar problem myself.

You should be using the enhanced OpenGL renderer from http://www.cwdohnal.com/utglr/. After you've installed it, open up x:\pathtounrealtournament\System\UnrealTournament.ini, then under [OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice] make sure that SwapInterval is set to 0. This will disable vsync.

i did that, but there's no swap interval line in the file. if you know what the line is i could try by adding it in myself.

SwapInterval=0

why not use quake live? it is free and less hassle to install

agony, codex, deck, liandri, tempest, turbine. I'm pretty sure there are some newschool maps as well just never played them myself and can't remember the names.

about the laggy mouse feeling it's probably because of vsync. you can turn it off this way -

1. open console and write preferences.
2. go to rendering and choose your renderer ( should be direct3d unless you changed it )
3. look for UseVSync line and turn it off.

For maps and the UT community, you're best to go to clanbase.com and check the opencups.

About the mouselag, there's a bug in UT that if you use vsync=false, it's actually on. You can try forcing it with your drivers.

You can try different D3D/OGL files to make your game feel better/smoother and give extra options like... limiting FPS.

When you're setting up LAN servers, I suggest you put on the TIW mutator so the instant hit weapons don't get super overpowered.

I was just gonna post, I tried all the tips I got. V-sync is forced off, even in drivers, swap interval = 0, got the fixed OpenGL DLL file, but my fps is still stuck at 75, which is also my monitor's refresh rate, which means V-sync is still on. I'm gonna try tweaking or I'll just try and get used to it I guess.

OpenGL "doesn't have" vsync. If you're using OpenGL, it must be a different problem. If your FPS are stuck at 75, you could check your UT.ini to see if it limits the fps with FrameLimit= and make sure your netspeed is 10000+.
I pm'd you a link to where my config files are hosted, I suggest you try them out to see if it's a problem with your UT.ini or your hardware drivers... :)

With the modified OGL files and UT.ini you can do a lot more :)

From these... I'd set the lanservermaxtickrate to 30 or 31 with the TIW modifier (that's what is used in cups) else instanthit weapons get way overpowered.
And I'd set the mousesmooth to 0 (or play around a bit with it atleast, I don't think it works with OS' after win98:))
