I have been a massive mx518 fan and my last mouse was the 3rd mx518. However since vista /window7 logitech mice has been extremely unreliable and I was crippled with what I think mostly software issues.

problems I faced

1. if I use setpoint it would stop working randomly, it wont crash but the mouse sensitivity would suddenly drop down to extreme low mid game and stay that way

2. similar problems even if I used windows provided driver.

3. in_mouse 1/2 did not help much regarding this.

overall I am frustrated with logitech mx518, and would be happy to say goodbye to it. I am looking for a mx518 replacement which has to be reliable and wont act up midgame.

should I go for MSIE 3.0 or the deathadder or something else ? can any one provide some advice ?

afaik the mx518 have a cpi button right besides the wheel.. are you sure thatøs not your problem? otherwise ime3.0 would be a good choice when you like a palm mouse..

Mouse wheel is pretty crappy in IME 3.0. Otherwise this mouse is nice.

I've been looking at roccat kova, but it seems that 2 of the side buttons are useless ( can't remap them ).

WMO tbh imho (it's what Rapha and Cooller use too)

Easier for me to control shots with it because I am able to use the claw grip. The 3.0 I have to use the palm grip b/c of how big it is and basically throw's off my aim.

Midgame sensitivity dropping isn't due to software, it's just that your mouse is dying. Get a new 518 with fresh hyperglides, get rid of setpoint, install the last accelfix, o/c your usb (after some trouble on win7, takes some time and a few reboots - or just get a mouse that supports 500 hz directly), and everything should be fine.

do you have 3080 or 3080E sensor on your mx518?
my 3080E version is more sensitive when moving it to the right than to the left :S Though it occurs only on dark pads like qck or puretrak while works perfectly on qpad or titan fnatic one. Weird, could you check yours?

i had three mx518 mice. and only the first one was any good. the other two were somehow very unstable (don't know why, just the feeling was always slightly different at different times)

i decided to try wmo several months ago, and am still extremely happy about it. this mouse is pure gold

i stopped using wmo because they sometimes triggered.

i got my wmo like 4 months ago (mx300 broke).

i have mg on mwheelup and gl on mwheel down.

about once every 3 games or so, i would take out gl mid fight, like in a shaft battle, i would swipe the mouse to the right, and the next thing i know i'm shooting grenades...

maybe this will help:
seta wdownlock "vstr wdownreset;bind MWHEELDOWN <your weapon bind here>"
seta wdownreset "bind MWHEELDOWN vstr wdownlock"
seta wuplock "vstr wupreset;bind MWHEELUP <your weapon bind here>"
seta wupreset "bind MWHEELUP vstr wuplock"
add wdownreset and wupreset to every of your weapon binds, like this:
seta rg "weapon 7; sensitivity 3.36; cg_fov 90; cg_laghax -1; vstr gd; vstr wdownreset; vstr wupreset"
that way you'll have to move mousewheel 2 times to change weapon (not that hard), so weapons shoudn't change on their own (if that's your problem :P)

yeah, i forgot to mention that. it's a real setback, but this actually helped me to at last begin the transition to keyboard binds. it's better that way.

I'm using mx518 with winxp and setpoint (need it for additional buttons in windows), but I have the same problem: the dpi changes, even though i have disabled the dpi button. Fortunately this happens very rarely, so I'm still using it.
