Why isn't quarentine used as a tdm map?

I have played several pubs on it and it's a perfectly fine map for tdm. It has both quad and bs which already makes it tactically more interesting as dm6/dm7. The layout is also quite intresting imho. Yet afaik it has never been used in any tdm tournament, why exactly?

And I like to hear some real arguments, not the typical "it sucks because it is new and I'm scared of new things because it may make use lose". Which is the typical attitude of most quake players.

Ask the players why they don't play it I guess.

The players aren't good judges, because they will play something one time claim it sucks and never look back.

If ID had not added t9 to the map list at Quakecon, nobody would be playing it today. Even though it has turned out to be one of the best duel maps in the entire duel map pool.

People by nature are very stubborn and resistant to change, it's up to the tournament organizers to force change upon the players or it will never happen.

A map like Ca2 may or may not be a good TDM map (I think Quarentine is far superior, but anyway), however we are never going to know this if it is either not added to the mappool or added in such a way that it can be dropped all the time and never be played.

You as a tournament organizer (?) are a position to make a difference, to force players to tryout different maps. And who knows we might find a new t9. One thing is for certain, if these maps are never played and allowed to develop over time we will never know.

So far you're the only one who is seriously considering Quarantine for TDM. Your single voice isn't enough. I can't add the map to EMS just because 1 person on ESR wants it in the map pool.

I already asked many players before EMS5 and the only viable solution for a 5th map was ca2. Remember that not a single TDM cup/league ever used Quarantine (it's way too "open"). If the players and other organizers don't use it, there might be a reason.

Amongst the current TDM maps, only 2 or maybe 3 are actually good. That's a secret for nobody. But there is nothing we can do about it.

How many of those players have actually played the map more then a handful of times, if at all? You cannot judge maps that quickly. They should at least be played for a full season (in games that matter, not just practices), so people can develop and evolve strategies over time. If it turns out to be a bad after a full season, fair enough then it can be removed.

But to not even try maps at all based on vague arguments like "it's too open"?, I mean how is it any more open then something like dm6? And as I said before at least it has both Quad and BS which already makes it much more interesting.from a tactical standpoint.

Well t9 was never used by players and organizers before quakecon, and t4 is never used since ESL dropped it from their mappool. Is it because t9 was a bad map before quakecon that suddenly became a good map. And t4 was a good map before the ESL dropped it and it suddenly became bad?

It's really the tournament organizers that force these changes.

I have wanted to practice a CA3 for ages in TDM but we cant even find a team that will play it one time, nevermind CA2 that is actually in the map list.

i never played ca3 but i will try to get some of my clanmates to try it out with me, never even considered it it but 2 powerups is always enjoyable

You're still pushing this all by yourself.

QuakeCon used ca2 in their 1v1 tournaments maplist, but it only got played in QuakeCon. And now, nobody will even play that map for fun. Do you see where I'm getting?

I'm not going to persuade others to play or promote new maps, thats pointless and is never going to work for reasons I gave before.

Ultimately the only one who can change anything is you, not me.

I'm just giving some suggestions, but if you and the players want to play the same three maps until the end of time thats your choice.

Your never going to have a map that everyone likes anyway. Because certain maps favor certain players and certain play styles. You mention ca2 as a duel map, you can ask noctis if he hates it (maybe he even does, lol) but he was damn amazing on that map because it favours his amazing hitscan aim. Other players who don't have great hitscan will like it less. I personally think ca2 was dropped too soon, it didn't really get a chance to develop. But again thats mostly the result of tournament organizers removing it from their map pools (zotac/gdata etc).
