Not really. There are players who potentially could rise from the lower placements, but they lack the motivation. New maps and more money would certainly drive a change, but that's not near in the future. Enjoy what we get!

I'd like to see some fresh blood at these competitions. I enjoy watching the matches, but everyone is so close in skill that it really becomes a toss-up. Was cool when tehnewbz (sp?) came from nowhere. Hope to see much more of that from ppl!

Hell, I'd love DaHang at the top but he just can't keep his nerves together (as per Memento Mori's coverage). So someone like Rapha who can keep his act together under pressure and play a smart game is what shall deliver a gg. I hope your next jab is not 'DKT' ..lol. Rapha, Chance, DaHang are the only ones for now. Zer04 is obviously busy with personal commitments. We're talking about dormant players in the duel scene like Noctis who's been playing tdm a lot more than duel. He has proven his caliber at Dubai by beating someone like cooller.

and as far as dkt goes he did take a map from cypher in group stage and proceed to beat fox also in groupstage at iem world. the only other person to take a map from cypher in group was dahang. If only dahang would of beaten fox and placed 2nd in his group he would not of had to play rapha. imo dahang was pretty unlucky because dahangrapha>av3kfox.

Taking a map and taking games is different. Noctis took a 5-map game from Cooller in Dubai, DaHang took a 5 map game from Rapha at IEM NA. It's nowhere equal to taking a map from your opponent. DKT is a good player and he might be a map winner with the top 5/3's current form but is not a game winner at present.

Yes, I should've been more specific about the 2nd and 3rd place because Rapha has been #1 all the way but then, it's not about rankings but people who're not as active. Spart1e took 2nd place at Q'con 2009 with Cypher at 3rd. If he's more regular at bigger events, he can definitely upset the usual (best?) lineup - Rapha, Cooller & Cypher. For instance, it was good to see Av3k take the 3rd place from Cypher. Cooller, well, he's getting strong with each tournament and even though he hasn't won something big in the last 1 year, he's back to the top 3 at the world finals..

It's just boring to see the same people at the same rank or top 3 finishers all the time, much like federer winning all his tennis matches. It's always good to have a bit of Nadal in there to make things interesting.

what can you do if the rest of the guys really are not as good as the top 5-6 ? they cant pull off miracles can they ? also u need maps like hub to throw things slightly off balance, all maps in current map pool rewards the more patient player invariably, some call it +back but its mostly its patience to do the right attack. honestly for a slightly lesser player to take a map from rapha or cooller has to involve a lot of luck, and happening that twice in a set of 3 is very unlikely, forget set of 5.

I wouldn't quite call DaHang or Noctis lucky for the wins they snatched from Rapha and Cooller respectively. Infact, they're a testament that the best can be beaten on the existing map pool.

Miracles? No, but more instances of a face-off against the top 5-6, yes!
