Started playing it a little after I got generously given a key (from ESR noless :D)
Really terrible at it though. Need to learn about it but cba to research it. Lots of CS mates of mine play it 5v5 but I never get invited purely for the reason I'm a naab... Was alright at Dota but just got bored half way through games
I was fairly terrible at dota. Really, like I've played like 5 games. Decided to try and get into it so downloaded some guys replay from fnatic or something, basically copied what he did and went SUPARWTF killing spree on everyone's ass with some water thingy :P Aside from that, I couldn't be bothered to learn much about it aside from "get last hit on everything"
Eventually when my mates can be bothered they'll just do an internal game explaining the shit, but there's never time and never enough people that can be bothered :D I think the one thing HoN and dota lack is a tutorial to get people into the game. I know it's beta, but there's really no introduction or whatever into it. It just assumes you can get straight into it without knowing items, strategies etc etc
Got a beta key from really nice german guy not to long ago, have been playing it some since and I got to say it is quite fun. Saw some guys play it at a lan and thought it was really interesting. Never played dota though so Im not that good, could have used that tutorial they got up yesterday earlier :)
It seems like it is kind of a hard game to get into. Just learning the game seems hard enough and then the amount of abuse new players have to go through doesnt help. Far worse than it was in q3.. Very few players actually try to help you ( and them selves in doing so ) by telling you what you are doing wrong. Rather most of the players just go on an emo rage like an abused 12 year old. The insults directed at me have gotten progressively better though ! Gone from "Are you retarded ? " "Kick the noob!!&$!$!$#!"# omg feeder" to "Is this your first time playing this character ?"
yeah saw the tuturial button yesterday, haven't tried it yet tho, im planning on doing that today.
abuse is harsh, i agree. tho you also get better quite fast and i catch myself seeing people doing certain things wrong, altho in most cases, i have no clue what to do, since i try to play a new hero every game, and haven't played them all yet
I checked the tutorial yesterday, it can be quite helpful for a guy like me who needs the basics shown. But yeah I have been playing more or less the same way as you, just trying to have fun with it and checking out new heroes. Wildsoul is my favorite so far, lucked onto some chain lighting sword with him that works really well with his abilities. Grinding creeps is a blast with that combo :D
The abuse though is easy to take in most cases, just as long as you dont emo back then most players will realise your just a beginner and also see that raging wont really help anything. Worst is getting kicked though or when players leav without giving you a chance, I find lost games though to be the best place for practise, no pressure, no abuse ! :>
