good read but i think ZvZ has evolved since he last checked - 13/14pool speedlings seem to literally rape roaches especially if the latter went for a fast expo

ZvZ has evolved recently into a speedling heavy style.

Fast exp into speedlings. Forcing your opponent to be defensive if he opted for roaches (thus playing even more blind than roach vs roach).

Lots of ppl are now stuck with speedlings vs speedlings and think this new variation is equally boring to the roach vs roach one. But there are subtle variations to these openings that might make ZvZ interesting (i.e. defensive baneling opening vs speedling assaults).

But due to the queen you're still playing a blind game. Although it's much more back and forth with the speedling style, allowing for constant aggression, and a better overall "outlook" on what your opponent is doing. Basically: it provides a way of keeping your opponent honest."

Yeah there needs to be some sort of scouting available in ZvZ or otherwise that matchup is just a guessing game.

You fast expanded i think (if you were the red zerg at ~4). It was a pretty action packed game, but you ended up drawing the shortest straw (we were z/t). Your mate was blue terran.

Fucking streams, there is HLTV, GTV, why can't there be SCTV?

I'd expect if Korea takes up SC2 then having a SCTV would be crappy because they broadcast it on TV and it would mean a large loss of advertising etc.

Not a major loss since the commentators are awesome and the map viewing people rarely miss a beat so it's almost more of a spectacle and more exciting to watch matches as a show. There's always replays anyway

Really, if you're watching the game on your own, you have to either:

A) move the map around on your own and pay attention at all times

B) set to first person mode and miss out on a lot of what it going on for the other player

There is a menu for "casting options" or some such in the options menu, but you can't click on it currently. In order to really enjoy SC, though, you really need someone to be casting and/or maneuvering the camera around.

A) But that's the thing, you would follow a view of a guy who is casting and does all the job of moving around a map, and if u fell to watch some other spot of the map u could do it at any time just to go back to the casters view at any given time.

And by that there could be more then one caster at any game, so u could choose your favorite one.


And if there where a go voice transmission for casting purposes (perfect sync) u would never return to any stream.

Well, the argument "I want my config"/etc don't apply to SC like they do to Quake, so streams are far superior. The failures of ESL make the situation look worse than it really is.

I'm not against the features you're talking about, but merely pointing out that SC is fine without them. You're NEVER going to see such a feature used in Korea, anyway.

For sure but, it's still nice to have a game look the way you want to. You can watch tech, units count, production,check what one player see now and what not - certain little things that stream doesn't allow u to. And u need a little bandwidth to watch a game in full HD on some LCD TV with friends - where a stream will miss that quality.

The streams are easier - you can watch them at work without a game installed, but they have limitations (see ESL) bigger then a built in game broadcasting, so I don't think they are superior.

There isn't really anything to change, aside from resolution. With the visibility improvements that Blizzard is working on, we likely won't even need to lower the graphics anymore.

There are always low bandwidth rebroadcasts (like they do with livestream on the proleague games) that can help for lesser bandwidth.

If SC2 is at all successful in the foreign world, and players take it as seriously as Korea, a feature like GTV would be completely banned from any serious use. I suppose it would help if the community didn't really take off, as GTV does for Quake right now, but then why not just go back to SCBW?

something between 5 and 60 minutes at the moment - longest i've seen was around 1:20hrs
in average i'd say under 20 minutes

in sc2 there's a thin line between what works fine and what's absolutely impossible to play - as a spectator you can't see it but when your units don't respond to the commands you give them then you're pretty much screwed...

i know i know, guess cause of my rage due to looking at a stream with no action for 1 hour made me write it asif demuslim raged ;p

Yeah was so annoying. Big anti-climax. Wanted to see a great final and that was pretty meh as well (scv's dying to probe harass and shit :p)

I think DeMuslim quit because he was a former WC3 player and I'd assume his game is more geared towards micro then macro, so if he had trouble moving his units, he'd see it as being a big disadvantage

Ok damn, I just got random into 7pool as a toss. I was so close to reenacting Idra's "FAGGOT!" just for the lolz. Can see why he was irritated :P

So fucking irritating to try and counter that. Scouted him out, saw the 7 pool. Had no idea what to do since I already went 13 gate, 14 gas so just build 3 pylons at the entrance. Was so close to holding it off, but in the end my micro with probes and zealots was shite :(
