I had started to write up some predictions for this match but unfortunately ran out of time.

My quickie take on this match is this:

DFM have been playing together and against each other for years. In fact, previously DFM infamously won the last big 2v2 competition in NA, the FD Cup (See KGB's interview: http://www.quakescene.com/2009/01/25/intervie...ews?page=8). In that tournament they played at a different level and while kgb is paired up with different teammates for this competition, the level of play has not let up. They exhibit qualities that I haven't seen in other teams in this tournament. All 3 have pretty high level aim, all play with nearly flawless teamwork throughout the match (think "tied together by a rope at all times"), and all 3 have have shown they know the maps... exceedingly well. When I saw their first week match, I figured they would get here and hoped they would have an opponent of equal calibur to give us a top notch match.

Lucky for us, there is just that type of team in Quake 2, but Quake 2 will need to really step it up if they want to win. They are definitely former Quake 2 players who showed they lack some serious (non-dueling) knowledge on 2 of the 3 "Quake 3 maps" in their previous matches. However, they seem to understand the flow of ztn fairly well and play it half decently. They also seem to play the new maps pretty decently. They have a combination of aggressiveness and methodical patience on their side which seems to be a perfect ying-yang combo for 2v2... or is it?!

In their last match, Q2 started off with qztourney7 and nearly pulled off the win just barely losing (62:68). DFM chose qzdm7 and pretty much won the game and match after the initial spawn, never looking back or being challenged (92:22). I expect the maps to go nearly the same only with Quake 2 winning their pick this time. It will come down to map 3 and at this point I can't see it not being either ztn or dm6. If it turns out to be ztn we could be in for a great finale as DFM lost on ztn to whaz and plague. While whaz and plague have also been playing together as much and as long as the DFM boys, it shows that DFM are vulnerable on that map.

qztourney7, qzdm7, qzdm6, qzca2, ztn

Expected result: kgb/flysher/swooped > DaHanG/Scooby 3:2

I love in that interview which was before the 2009 qcon kgb blamed his play on the lcd monitors that were used in qcon 08. Yet one would think if that was the real reason holding him back he would have trained on lcd monitors in prep for the upcoming lan.

1st map tourney6 Q2, awesome comeback by Q2 to win in last minute
2nd map dm7 DFM, overall dfm dominance
3rd map dm6 DFM, Q2 had decent start and had things going for them in first 4-5 min, but after that its all DFM, I hate dm6 for 2v2 as well :(
4th map t7 DFM, unbelievable comeback by DFM, I was surprised

That's pretty much it, except that dm6 was 3rd and t7 was 4th.
