google disable edid remove pin

i removed the pin, and although i can now pick any resolution or refresh rate, it automatically changes the refresh rate back to 85! when i check this in the monitor osd, it also says 85! argh! i'm guessing i must of missed somehting really basic, should i just removed the 12th pin from one end or from both? should i have my monitor drivers installed or do anything else?

another thing i noticed is that in warsow (yeah.) i can set my refresh to 120 or 200 and it'll be fine- as in it can display that refresh rate in fullscreen and not freak out. but if i move it to 30 or something the monitor cant do it goes in windowed mode and changes the refresh rate command line value to 0. is this just a case of my monitor/nvidia control panel being a bit gay? it still shows refresh of 85 on the OSD even when i set it to 120 ingame. anyone had something similar?

Like I said I tried it on Windows 7 and it worked for me.
I only removed a pin from the VGA cable (the part that goes into the DVI adaptor and then to the graphics card) and then forced 120Hz in-game.
I didn't remove a pin from the VGA part connected to the CRT.
You could try forcing the refresh rate with RefreshLock or RefreshForce.

nvidia 195.55 here, some newer beta version didnt work correctly, dunno about new stable one.

also you prolly gotta find an .inf driver for you screen and install it
(got to modify a couple of lines if you're using x64 windows though, google how)

found the exact .inf i needed for this monitor and copy of windows off of google actually! that and removing a pin from the vga worked. cheers tho!

I've got it running 120hz, and I don't think I did anything special.

Was going to suggest the monitor driver myself. I have not downgraded to LCD and am still running a Sony Multiscan G200, and have not had problems with it in Vista or Win7.

With EDID a monitor driver should not matter, but sometimes it still does, depending on the graphics card driver. With ATI's drivers, you can disable EDID in the software, which is the same thing as cutting the 12th pin.

ha :D i changed to nvidia just so i could use 120hz on my old tft monitor! sod's law i guess :)

are there any crt's with dvi input? :\

i haven't seen any i don't think! i'm by no means a crt expert though as you can probably tell :D

IBM P275 has DVI, no benefit with it tho.

I've got a Sony G520 and it's got an DVI connector. Advantages are the monitor tells your graphic card what model it is and what refresh rates it can accomplish. Keep in mind a standard DVI-D cable won't work with analog monitors, as it lacks the additional 4 pins which are needed for these old companions. You need a DVI-I or DVI-A cable, but I wouldn't go out and get a DVI-A cable as you can't use it for any other monitors than your old CRTs. Grab yourself a (fully pinned 24+5) DVI-I cable and you're good to go.

/e: Gotta correct myself. I'm not sure if the monitors give out information regarding refresh rates and model number. But I thought I read it somewhere.

But your monitor can still benefit from a DVI cable. The improved image quality you might get is probably due to either a better cable, which can make a huge difference, or that the DVI connector has a better connection than an HD15 D-sub connector, which it does. It could also be because the DVI port on your video card has better analog circuitry, which is quite possible.
