The one time EffOrt's stats compare is on Eye of the Storm, but they're against lesser players, whereas Flash's record on the map includes many big names. The record between the players against each other is in favor of Flash, with a 6-2 record against EffOrt, but none of the games were on any of the maps being played in this event. EffOrt did take a game from Flash in proleague the other day (also not on a map being played in this event), but I wouldn't read too much into it. It would be generous to call this an uphill battle for EffOrt.

I have never tried moonshine. I am law-abiding citizen. I tell you now, with use of internet, you find distillery-information. It's not trolling. Look at the tech tree and costs. Now compare it with muta. In addition, you likely need to parasite in order to even use them.

In order to use them, you either need to totally outclass your opponent, or be amazingly ahead. In the case of EffOrt, he not only used them when he was down on economy, but when Flash had a million goliaths that were 1/2/2 with range upgrade.

Not defending effort's sloppy play or anything, all I'm saying is that queens CAN be more effective in special cases.

Queens severely offset the current TvZ metagame and you can get to Queens much faster than to Defilers allowing you to really surprise the T. Queen usage in Effort vs Flash was actually predicted by quite a few professional korean commentators. Once again you prove that you don't play this game and that you know nothing about the metagame. Just because you don't see it every time you tune in to some random proleague stream (where you actually delude yourself believing you understand anything when you don't) doesn't mean its REALLY viable in highly competetive games. You saying the rematch game was the same opening clearly shows you're just a random SC spectator.

OSL/MSL finals are all about mind games and offsetting standard play and always trying to think a few steps ahead and come up with _new_ tactics.

There's a difference between new tactics, and overpriced, underperforming units that have another unit that fills the role better.

You can get queens slightly sooner than defilers.. so? The role it fills against both T and P is that of the MUTALISK - a unit sniper and crowd control. Mutalisks are cheaper to tech to, faster to tech to, faster to build, and their usefulness increases exponentially through upgrades and numbers.

They are useless UNLESS you could win doing just about anything anyway. You need a substantial lead against your opponent in order for them to be truly viable.

Against protoss, the role they fill is a HT sniper with spawn broodling - the same thing as a mutalisk. Unfortunately, not only do you have to upgrade just to get the ability to do so, but you need energy to use it. Worse yet, the ability stops the queen on cast (though, it does have long range) and the queen is slow to accelerate and escape. The queen has no attack, making it all but useless for anything but killing HT, as it would be a huge waste to use spawn broodling on zealot blobs or workers. In this matchup, there is not even an option to mix queen/muta.

Against terran, they fill the role of a tank sniper or crowd control against marines. Consider the time it takes to upgrade their ability for your strategy, and the position of the terran. Ensnare *might* help slow the terran push, but your tech will be extremely behind, and you have NO way to harass his expansions or keep him from pushing. Spawn broodlings can help to snipe tanks... then what? /dance at the few tanks that do make it through with the huge M&M army? You could try mixing queen/muta, but why delay tech and pay for extra upgrades when you could just keep pumping muta, upgrade the muta, or tech to hive?

edit: Oh, and all this assumes that your opponent didn't scout it and just walk over you to begin with..

edit2: As for effort in the game against flash - look at the position in the game. At the time queens came out, flash was 1/2/2 goliaths with range upgrade, and EffOrt knew this. Obviously, he was dicking around at that point.

We only really use TL because there isn't a real alternative - not because they're a real authority on SC. It's a great place to send newbies to get the basics, but don't hope for much on technical analysis from them.

Outside of liquipedia, game schedules, stream info, and FPL, it has nothing to offer. Gosugamers is an acceptable alternative for schedule, though.

I don't think you watched the game he was talking about. He had a MASSIVE economic advantage, and set the pace of the game from the start. Fantasy went conservative, while jaedong expanded into a super late pool. Fantasy didn't even begin his expansion until after he scouted jaedong. By the time he even started making queens, he already had hydralisk den, spire, hive, and defiler mound.

The units he flanked his army with from the back would have been enough to kill them all alone, even without ensnare... and that's not even counting the front line force that was advancing. Again, he was in a position where he could really do whatever the hell he wanted to.

The standard of play has been significantly low for the past few months, so it's no surprise that people will try radical strategies in hopes of a surprise win. In order for a Zerg to play at the peak, they simply can't use queens.

Why would anyone parasite you ask? (Short answer: parasite is more cost effective when not in midst of a battle than broodling because of its 12 range and the fact that you have to destroy your tank when parasited) Or why would you want to ensnare before you get defilers out? (Short answer: ever seen a mech army that's ensnared? Ever heard of positioning in battles?) Especially on such a large distance map. How will you get defilers in time for Flash timing push that is to come, bonus question do you even know what timing Flash is exploiting in that game? You're probably too stupid to answer this. Will simply mutas and hydras without casters suffice? NO. You have to outflank him/outposition and reduce his tank count. Go play a few thousand games of Starcraft and reach at least C then you might understand instead of just spitting out shit.

1 Queen 100m/100g = 1 Tank 150m/100g when you do a parasite on it since T won't want to you know his positioning.

1 Ensnare 100m/100g = -40% Attack Rate on stimmed Marines = negates stim completely. Reduce their attack output by 40% also less mobility allows you to flank easily.

Also I want you to see how you use mutalisk vs marines/goliaths. Not to mention that there's a timing issue at hand here too.

You seem to forget that you need a queens nest (150m/100g), ensnare (100m/100g), likely gamete meiosis (150m/150g) since you're going to make more than one, plus production time. All this to POTENTIALLY slow them down, and with no other utility.

Parasite is only potentially worth using against P, as they're not going to make corsair just to deal with queens.

You always want a Queen's nest since you will be teching up to Lair. You put it up at the normal timing you would normally tech to Lair. Ensnare is not always a must of course also you don't need more starting energy. You don't need MANY queens since this is not your main strategy just to offset timings for T in the standard TvZ.

You will have a spire, the spire comes before the Queens nest. Also good job if you're going Muta heavy against an G&M army. You, in no way, rush for a Queens nest. Its made to offset a SPECIFIC timing push by T, and you still don't know which and what it exploits. If you scout a Queens nest as T, a normal player will assume tech to Defilers and thus move out with whatever they have and thereby falling into the trap of ensnare and parasite, which you wanted in the first place. Anoter hint on the timing: there is no TvZ timing for the first tank to come out, and you wouldn't want Queens to counter tanks, since they won't.

Pretty much everyone agrees that EffOrt was ahead because FlaSh lost the valkyrie and barely had any goliaths and no turrets. At best it was even no one can tell who was going to win. Saying FlaSh won twice already is just utterly bullshit. :)

In the first game, Flash read effort perfectly, and had ample defense. Did you even see the game, or are you just listening to effort's fanboys?

On the maps Flash lost:
The first two were flash going overly aggressive with mm and losing them for no apparent reason. His strength has always lied in his mid-late game because of out macroing his opponent, so giving away those units early was probably to try and throw off effort but didn't work.

Final map was zergling with upgraded speed push where Flash needed 2 bunkers in his base or scvs blocking off his ramp to win. Its a rather cheese build on efforts part, but Flash could have bought himself time for another bunker in his main if the chock was blocked off. He did not look like a bonjwa today, but Effort also came very prepared to snipe him, just as Snow did last week.

I think the real question now is, what will Jaedong do to Flash in MSL?
