you can still make decent looking trees in dyrad, and can get away with 100,000 polys in idtech4 and probaly more if your not going to use it in a playable map, after you make a tree with alot of leafs, remove some polys on the trunk, smooth it out a little and triple it,

select all the leaf materials, sub-divide it, remove all the polys, then triple it

guess you have to love plants if your going to texture every leaf, stem and branch

why would you texture every leaf?

modellers take pride in they`re work, and its all portfolio work, its why there is nothing for any new game, they use to many polys. they can try and sell them instead in the world of CG

dryad to lightwave, you need to subpatch the leaves then remove polys using max, then triple them all, they`re all just square when you open the obj, unless you use a alpha tga material of a real leaf

if your good, average is 40,000 for alot of leaves, and manually delete some branches, to kill some clutter for realism, less if your a pro taking a shortcut

yeah well not even in CG movies do we texture every single leaf, maybe we do 4-5 different ones and combined whit a slightly different color and no one will see the difference. but yeah there are probably ppl who would texture every single leaf as a hobby project but not in a real production i would think.

but it you just add a texture and fit it using cubic, the texture on 90% of them might all be backwards or upside down. or any other direction
