street fighter had all the arcade and nes fanbioys, MK was a sidekick for those who want some "gore"

trailer looks good.. but the gameplay was always problematic with MK, especially the 3D games: glitchy and stiff gameplay with dial combos that require no timing, no lasting appeal for any competitive environment to develop

Artistically it's probably the most attractive fighting game series IMO, too bad I've got no clue how 2D, 3D and all the different series of fighters compare in terms of skill so I'm stuck with what I hear from most of the community to be the real deal, SF4.

Me and a buddy of mine also play the game in MAME but there are some minor input lag issues. It's a shame there is no PC version of UMK3. The pure MK3 for DOS was awesome. Spend years playing this even with Q3 out :D

I am not sure if DOSBox is a viable option.

Nah, I just tested the N64 one and did some design for the training mode that was not used, not because it was bad, just because it was too ambitious for the time investment they wanted to make.
It was basically a conversion with a training mode and back then I had NO idea how long it took to code stuff and the compromises you have to make in game dev.

Far as I know they used Alias for KI, probably Wavefront, which later turned into Maya.
I recall the main renderer (hardware) being about the size of about 25 desktops pc's glued together in a rectangle and I think they had several of them with a cooler that made the same amount of noise as a small plane and nearly froze you if you walked past :)
