With the 6 ppl Q2 scene, they don't have the capacity to hold a 4v4 tourney, so they'll make a 3vs3 : ).

Wow. Okay, AQ2 = Action Quake 2. Q2 = Quake II. Do we all have that?

Regarding the team size, that's more for the ease of keeping the cup to one day than anything else.

Regarding community size: yes, AQ2 *is* dead, we're all rather aware of that. This is an effort to bring some life to things. Q2, on the other hand, is far from dead. At the time of this post, there are 170 unique players online at the moment worldwide, with a good portion of them in the US.

The casual q2 scene is pretty active, with loads of events, new mod releases, new map releases, etc. This past week saw the latest installment of the ir500, a 500-fraglimit insta ffa with little on it's mind but gibs. Had ~40 players show up for that one 40 minute event.

Now, competitively, NA q2 does indeed have some problems, but that's again mostly due to a lack of organization in recent years. The players are all there, now it's just time to get the tourneys to suit.

aq2 is still alive in Chile. It has about 12 clans and manages to continue, but ofc in the past it was better with around 32 clans and lans.

Finland and Brazil were the other countries in which it had lots of activity, but idk about those now.
NA on the other hand was never close to those 3.

AQ2 is still very much alive in Nothern Europe; Scandinavia. Clans are still active and there are a lot of clan wars played every day. The finnish public servers are populated throughout the day. Chile, Brazil, Iceland are other countries that got some actvity also.

I am excited about this tournament and I will definitely participate. Looking forward gib some players with my Sniper Rifle! :)

Obv trollbait, but UrT is worth mentioning for making a very polished spiritual sequel. I'd love to see more NA UrT comps going around as well, totally fantastic game, helped out by really talented maps.

But yeah, it's always good to acknowledge your roots - AQ2 ftw.

It's a hell of a mod. Must say is awesome.

Action Quake 2 is one of the best FPS games all time along with Quake 3. By the time it was released it was way more advanced than any other fps game... and even nowadays its comparable even with latest FPSses, though it would definitely need some new client with antilag and better user interface...

If someone has skills to code antilag system / new interface / menus, do it and scene will come alive. With current clients it will just die. I made the kweik.com installer 2-3 years ago and it boosted community size / activity by ~30% and all it was is easier to use, better looking and up to date with clients... By making these two important enchantments you could propably bring scene back to days where there were thousands of active players by day...

I used to love AQ2 FFA back in the day (1998?), but I seem to remember it had the same problem as RA and CA for clan matches: there's no reason for either side to attack so it just becomes a campfest. CS (which was very much inspired by AQ2) solved that beautifully with the scenarios that require one side to attack.

the problem with camping has been solved, a long time ago... by designing maps so that you gain advantage by rushing instead of waiting...

nowadays u cannot win a match with camping in aq2 its like waiting to catch a bullet beetwen the eyes...

Let's see more more signups, eh? We have four teams so far, if we could double that I would be more than impressed.
