Slasher will never tell you a lecture on why pro players aim plasma on enemy legs. He will never tell you that spam rocket was not just a spam rocket, but specifically to deny railgun to enemy. He won't even understand why both players suddenly exchanged smiley binds when seemingly nothing happened, etc, etc ,etc, while 2GD will describe all of that in a very funny manner while not forgetting about the usual "OMG, WHAT A RAIL!!!!" stuff. How can you enjoy wheat/slasher more, is just out of my comprehension.

wheat sounds phony to me. somehow, i don't believe that he's really that excited about the game, but have the impression that he just goes through the motions as a professional

just stream without casting (maybe just give information inbetween on what match is running atm, what group, group game, who has to win and how to move on etc., if its the first/second/third map/who won the first/second and such stuff)

since there doesnt seem to be another caster that can give insights like jay anyway :p

for the first time in a while, i'm actually getting discouraged by these esr threads. there's only so much I can do about my monotone voice (can change it up somewhat), and after talking to several top players, do feel i'm knowledgeable enough both history wise and in-game, but understand the reservations of never being a top 1v1 player. if the community is annoyed enough, i will step away.

Well, don't listen too much. Haters gonna hate. If anything, you should rather aim to improve your cast where is possible, collecting opinions.

Take 2GD as an example. On a technical side, he gives educated descriptions of what a player should do in the particular situations, is able to point out the crucial hits / mistakes putting them in a wider context and is good at anticipating turns of event and potential comebacks. IMHO these are the things our nerdy community wants most, and the things that gained him the trust. Then there are the jokes, the provoking interviews and the blatant overly sized ego of his... these other aspects make people like him, but are not mandatory.

Try a fake british accent and see if that helps. Your voice is really fucking annoying and you usually just commentate on what happens.. but so does wheat, hardly any strategic insight like 2gd does.

there aren't many smart players and even less smart casters, so try not to overestimate yourself all the time with your wisdom (last event, EG thingy was very ok)

about who to spec: usually cg_followkiller 1 is the standard for casting, i find it a bit problematic at times, try to do your best plz

apart of a few haters, most of us have fun to tease you a bit and this culminated in the fu slasher affair, that you had your own fun with in your show :D hillarious

If a tournament has none of 2gd, wheat, slasher or joe casting I usually don't really care to follow it (unless it would be the return of Toxic or something). This is intended as a compliment. Have a plus too. Also I would love to have the kind of life people have where your voice is considered a problem worth attention for more than five seconds. (As a sidenote, during my personal five seconds I concluded it's awesome and sounds a lot like Seth Killian who is also a baller, you ever get that or is it just me?)

Haters gon' hate. For me I look at it like this:

Wheat = Hype machine. Great person to intro an event and get everyone excited for the matches, but he doesn't bring that much to the table in terms of pure tactics -- nor do we need him to.

Slahser = gossip girl. Since Slasher knows the players and is deeply involved in the community he is the perfect person to give you the inside scoop as far as who has been practicing with who, how much they have been playing, any beefs between players, and some quick quake history overviews.

2GD = funny pro player with a great understanding of the tactics, styles, and in-game decision making on the fly.

In my opinion everyone that shoutcasts quake seems to do it as if it is radio. Know your audience -- we know the game and don't need a comment for every strafe jump.

yeah but sometimes 2GD enters into "advanced" explications when there are very simple situations he is just omitting, like that old match on ztn he had no idea what was happening, going on with timing techniques debunked, strong advanced stategies and how the position of the Moon influenced the moral strength of the better player, and on and on when in fact there was just a simple cause to the badly lose of the other guy: he was attacking the mega without even picking up 50 armor, every freakin' time
so I don't retract my statement that he had no idea what was going on on that match

fact is that the last american competition you got connected/disconnected then connected again xD (eg master cup?) well fact is that you gave better insight than djwheat on the matches, and even he was seeying this as every time you was on the stream he gladly let you take over the casting

You can't really expect all people to like your casting. Sure, people do, but you need to understand that people don't, and unfortunately that group of people is the most vocal. Back when we had GTV, they didn't need to make comments like they do now, because they could just watch the games with no casters if they wanted to.

there are: the narrators and commentators

because of your voice's tone i think you should be a commentator, but also if you practice a little bit some techniques based on radio-tv classes then you can become a magnificent narrator plus a decent voiced-tone

and he could just sing from time to time, with proper lessons of course

i know a guy who studies radio-tv and he needed to do these things etc.. vocal-coordenation or something like this..

I think 2gd is the best quake live commentator ever..(?) He even beat djWHEAT in my opinion. The humor is great! The voice is clear and good + he has knowledge of the game. What more can we ask for? :]

2GD because he knows it's not radio, so doesn't tell you about every single move/hit/dodge/pickup that the players make. He actually has insight :)

All coverage is good of course, just rather not listen to a rundown of the players exact movements when we can see it on screen.
