if anything t7 is the most boring map from a spectators pov. dm13 can have some nice close games unless garpy is playing his if-22 style. t9 can be awesome but id rather have it switched out for a true new map. ztn always delivers eventhough i still prefer new maps. and some for strange reason dm6 delivers too at pro level, but its not exactly a 'balanced' map.

if maps had to be replaced, this is the order:

t7 out / t9 out, dm6 out, dm13 out, ztn out.

besides that, i dont find it as enjoyable to both play and spec as any of the other maps.

t7 - its shit to play and shit to watch. its like rush one side map, rush other side map and be lucky on RA spot. worst map in list. (its not my only one opinion, lot of top players thinks same).

t9 is new map, with nice future @ 3 teleways. = q3tourney2_2010

dm13 with new ya spot @ lg is not bad to play, not bad to spec.

dm6 is map to chill for me, to own some low skilled players, becoz u get control and a bit more skill , its ownage.

ztn is ztn - we cant replace best map in the list ( we could if we had some new fresh maps).

there have been mapping competitions for q3 and something tells me idsoftware has something in store for the winners. but so far idsoftware takes a big leap when it comes to patching once every 6 months or so, so theres not a whole lot anyone can do besides wait. perhaps after Rage is released they might do something with quakelive again.

i still think my order of removing maps is best, and i dont expect anyone to agree with me as its my opinion but tbh, it seems most logical to remove them in that order and add new maps in their place :)

edit: just remembered something vague about hub maybe beeing introduced to QL, cant remember if theres a thread about it anywhere or if it was just random rambling on irc :x

towards the end of q4, when everyone kind of knew how to play it, map started to get boring with ludicrous amount of rocket spam in RA room and upper tele.

Remember watching the fatal1ty toxjq ESWC matches recently and thinking "... are they actually timing items or is this a TF2 32 player server?"

I think there were a lot of complains in the past on the maps with the RG, especially because RG was inflicting 100 damage at the times (q3 times, that's when these complains started, I'd say around 2003-2004, right after eswc 2003 which had 3 RG maps -ztn, dm6 and t4, yet many people admitted that eswc 2003 was the best q3 event ever, the irony)
imo the biggest difference between q2/q3 and quake/qw was the addition of a long range weapon, the railgun, so imo a ql without the RG is basically a very hard modified version of qw/quake1, and if people want to play all maps without the RG it means that they wanna play a different game, not ql/q3
anyway playing maps without the RG has a lot more sense in q3 times when the RG was really strong -in order to compensate this, they made most of the maps heavy based on items; now with the weaker RG and most maps containing the same amount of items, it seems that RG maps are pretty balanced, but gives a bit the impression that RG is useless (not true but well, k1llsen's strategies on ztn for example rely pretty much on the RG so every matches he misses his shots I think: bye bye k1llsen, this map is a lose)
in ql the weaker RG worked extremely well on t4, yet the organisers decided to remove this map, saying that the map is heavy based on RG, as they used to think about it in quake3 times

conclusion is that in order to sustain a bit the variety of maps, and thus playstyles, for a bo5 system it is good to have 2 maps without the RG, so you can choose at least one map without the RG, if this fits your style
the sad thing is that they removed t4, on one hand, and on the other hand it is the players may choose first 2 maps or 2 out of 3 in bo3 the maps without the RG, and in adition to this in bo5 even if they did not chose first maps the maps without the RG, in the end if the score goes down to 2-2, 2 out of 5 played maps wil be maps without the RG anyway

The thing I don't get is why they like keeping the remove first-pick after chosing maps system, because this system with its bo3 and bo5 style forces the maximum number of maps to 5. I'd vote for no removal, but addition of maps, till up to 6 or even 10 maps, and system to go this way: pick map, pick map, pick map pick map, last map random from the rest. Also from a best of the best perspective, actual system is kinda lame. I remove the map you are best on, you remove the map you are best on, and then both play the maps we are not very good on them. No wonder the matches start to be boring. Imagine in kickboxing, I know your left highkick is devastating and you know my right jab is very strong so we play with the restrain that no left highkicks and no right jabs allowed. How do you think the match will look?

The map removing system is good and is certainly a must if there's a pool consisting of 10 maps. (Which I would really hate, because that would be hell to practice)

The remove system is good because it enforces you to learn at least 3 maps, but allows you to not learn a map you really don't like.

And imo, a 10 map pool would just be random, you can't be good at 10 maps. The amount of people good at all 5 maps are is even quite slim. It would get to be all about the 3rd map.

This is the only time you're allowed to compared QW to QLive: to point out that QL sucks in comparison.

b) give choice to choose between different item placements for each map; this could include the new weapons!

Proximity mines with very short ammo would slow down a player in control, chaingun could counter LG and the nails are just a last sraw to hold on to. At least for dm6 I think those guns would work, it can't be much worse then it is now, the map sucks donkey dick.

Anyone who manages to die to proximity mines deserves to. They stick out like a sore thumb and all they'll do is slow people down (yeah, that's what we need in QuakeLive... slower games)

Chaingun I agree could have a faster wind up and it'd be a bit like the Q4 nail gun. Wouldn't be so bad.

Nails are... meh. Pretty much only used in Siberia as a "meh, I've got it so I'll use it" gun. No point in adding them into duel.

No rail maps is as good as saying no real long range threat or combat.
Which leaves mid to close range, I.E. shaft and Rockets.

The problem isn't the rail gun, its the lack of options of the game has.

When the railgun was conceived most people were poor (by todays standrds) at FPS, it worked ok back then, these days, player skill has evolved beyond the parameters of the game.

You play any old game long enough and you'll find the holes.
