Rapha is a class act. Great champion and style. He's got nothing that really stands out about his game, except his strategies. He's the ultimate brain game, like how tox is the ultimate aimer.

Just thought about something. What about a tag-team duel competition. You and a friend sign up and then duel other teams. There are A and B, you decide which 1 is going to play first then both A's play and both B's play. If you win A and lose B, then you play the final AvsB.

The reason for this style of tournament instead of 2v2 tdm is that its more interesting because you alone can't win, you need your partner to be as good as you are. Thus more people would have to share their secrets and train more to make the competition fierce.

I mean Rapha + someone else vs cypher and av3k? That's not good for Rapha, so he'd have to train a lot with a teammate or get cooller to help him. And you never know what would happen in these tag-team battles.

[2v2 TDM is boring without maps and kind of boring to spectate]

I always thought that clan wars would be quite interesting in Quake using sc/wc3 method:

I was one of the people running said league, the problem with a team duel lineup is that the top players would band together and would be pretty much unstoppable due to the format.

Imagine being a team trying to beat rapha/dahang/dkt (for example) where each guy is playing on one of their favorite and/or strongest maps. Same would apply to say cypher/cooller/avek for european players.

It actually worked quite well for mid level players though I should point out. Those matches were pretty entertaining.

That's similar to how ESWC 2004 was conducted. Teams were nation-based. It was a fun event.

I think it's a shame and very frustrating to end up being top3/4 because your mates couldn't match your level of play. I'm personally not for running this format without running the other one at the same time.

God yes, that was such a great tournament. The ZTN match in the final series between czm and Z4muz is one of my all time favorites. It seemed both were really giving it their all for the entire 15 minutes. They were playing for more than just themselves, they were playing for their teammates and their country! An epic tournament it was. :D

Yes, tox had very good positioning and dodge skills as well as aim. You had to, if you played TDM competitively back then.

Grats to RAPHA! It is just unbelievable how strong his mental game is. This is by far the biggest advantage for him against the other top players imho. E.g.Cypher is not even close to him in this part of the game.

That would be a fairly good wage if he gets the same for 2nd half of the year. It's a shame 2nd, 3rd place and so on get so little though. I can't see how they can support themselves without a job or salary from their team.

That was the Russian interview he did after DreamHack Winter. Cooller said he got 500E and that rapha got $500-700. How accurate the latter is you'll have to decide for yourself. This was also before rapha resigned with SK I think.

There's at least two things wrong with it:
-you didn't come 1st
-you didn't come 2nd

Coming 3rd is good if you're a guy in the top 5 or the top 8 and you have a great tournament where you overperform. If you're someone who truly has the ability to win the championship then coming 3rd should be crushing for you. The really high level winners in sports go home depressed when they finish 2nd, even if they put on a smile for the cameras.

When you've played 40-50 duels per day coming 3rd is not a result you should be content with if you're an elite level player.

every tournament placement between the very top level duelers (to those i include av3k, cooller, cypher, rapha ...) is dependant first and foremost on each player's day form.

ofcourse my selection of "top level duelers" is very narrow, and even tho many others should feel themselves included, this is not the topic of discussion. i am simply trying to say, that even if someone placed 3rd or 2nd place in this tournament, it is surely not because he is lesser skilled than whoever is ahead of him.

also, what i am saying is in no way meant to take anything away from rapha, he is undoubtedly a sure top2 candidate, arguably the best player in the last 2 years and certainly the most dominant player from 2009 onward.

Interesting point. But here's what I remember happening. Since the maplist was announced in advance, teams would decide amongst themselves who would play what. Players would naturally spend most, if not all of their time practicing on that map alone.

I kinda got the impression that the tourney was more of a training tool that let them focus on improving a single map at a time as opposed to a semi-competitive event.
