The info says 12 hours of talk/etc, but SC2 comes out in 6 hours, so I'm not sure how that works. =P

The King of the Beta tourney starts at midnight pst, so the event lasts well beyond the California release time.

The Gamestop nerds told me to show up at 10 pm so I don't have to wait too long after they start distributing the game. I think I'll pass on the nerdom and show up a little before midnight with a flask of scotch.

Ah, that's kinda lame since everyone will be playing at that point. =P

blizzard and id don't have much to do with it as far as I can tell. it's all about the community. Can you believe esreality is the main quake site?

When I mentioned blizzard I meant more in terms of how they communicate and interact with the community. The wall of silence from ID just makes a bad situation worse in my opinion. Another company I think does a good job is Valve, what they have done around TF2 is a great example.

i thought that those other campaigns are standalone.

with each of the three releases you can play mutliplayer across the releases, but only play one campaign and you dont need the older releases to player the most recent campaign

They let you download the client freely from their site - just like WoW, it's useless without an account (or some kind of hack)

well the flyer that was in the box tells me that you still also need the dvd to use the downloaded client. but lets see if it works for deo

I don't think it'll be an issue, as WoW works the same way. There's already a huge thread on TL with people giving them out. Depending on how many people we have here, a thread might be in order.

Everyone who buys the game gets 2 guest passes that they can give away to anyone. They simply enter the key on the Battle.net site to add the guest license to their account

Tournaments get exclusive access to a LAN tourney client, chat rooms are on the way soon, cross region is coming later, privacy isn't an issue anymore, and multiplayer replays stopped being useful when dialup died.

errr, looks like developers have all jumped on the trend of stringing their consumer bases along with:

Release New Titles Incomplete.

This allows for:
-laying off employees; because if we only release half a game, we only need half the amount of workers. More $$$ for us!
-we will sell just as many copies because it is technically still a 'new game' if we say it is!
-by the time we get around to 'finishing' the game (releasing expansions for $50+ or adding essential features over a period of years) we will have maximized profits!

Makes sense actually, because when you have investors to which you must be profitable for, you have to do whatever you can to make the numbers. AmericuH! Fuck Yea!
